Why do the police ask you where you are going whenever they pull you over?

That first answer is idiotic.

Sometimes I ask out of curiousity. Sometimes I ask because if you're obviously not from the area, I might be able to help you get where you're going. Sometimes I ask because depending on where you're going, I might know about a problem with the road or the weather between you and where you're going. Sometimes I ask because I think you're a drug trafficker and your answer can help me determine if I should continue to think that. Sometimes I ask because I want to smell your breath or look at your eyes while you answer me. Sometimes I ask because I think maybe you're a nurse on the way to work, and I don't write nurses tickets.

There's probably even more reasons but those are the ones that came to mind right away.

You don't want to tell me? Don't. Nothing's going to happen to you because you don't want to tell me where you're going. You can even lie about it, if you like. It's none of my business if you don't want it to be.

But if you *are* a nurse, don't blame me if I write you a ticket.

I tell them I was going to turn myself in. The cop invariably will respond "turn yourself in for what?" Then I tell him "whatever it was you pulled me over for."

Seriously, all those questions are designed to put you on the defensive; to rattle your sense of confidence. When you are less confident, the cop can go about berating you with less resistance.

It's called conversation and in that conversation their trying to find out if you're drunk or up to no good by the way you answer their question.

I wouldn't antagonize cops. Sometimes they ask you where are you going in such a hurry? Sometimes you have a legit answer. Like going to the hospital. But don't lie because they may escort you. You have to answer basic questions like what is your name and show them your ID. I once tried to explain to a female cop why I did what I did and she said "keep talking and I'm going to give you a ticket" so I shut up and she let me go. You don't want to push someones' button that has a gun on them.

because police officers are looking for criminals. Criminals do not always have their stories straight. They are looking for indescripencies in stories. For example if you sy im coming from so and so, and going to so and so and your 30 miles out of your way that is alarming

yes they ask me that everytime i get pulled over. you have to answer that question because he asked you, the only time that you dont have to answer any of his questions or say a word is when you are arrested, thats when he put handcuffs on your wrist and says "you have the right to remain silent.....", you can always lie about where you are going or where you are coming from, but you never know if they are going to check. if you have a weapon in your car or you are intoxcated, its best not to lie. but if you are clean, i would lie. if you tell them its none of their business they would probably arrest you.

Your in a car aren't you? Their just asking you where you're taking it and judging your attitude. If your acting really nervous, they might take things further, but if you just act polite and normally, they'll probably just let you go on your way.

You can tell them its none of their business but then they'll probably try to find a way to search your car or some crap like that. They are way too nosey.

I usually answer home, work, school, or to a family members house.. *******!!!!
