If this question is related to all the teenage stabbings in britain over the last year or so, then look at who's stabbing who,
its mostly young blacks attacking young blacks aggravated by a violent education of video's DVDs and computer games that promote aggressive violence, these kids have no roots only the run down estates they live in most don't have a real father figure, drugs cheap booze blame what ever you like, there is no real punishment or corrective training, we pamper instead of chastising because a few money grabbing social workers again mostly of foreign origins that exploit any loophole in our system to their advantage,I could go on but the bottom line is, we are to blame for allowing these insurgents to infiltrate our structures and if these stabbings were white on black who would be screaming for justice then, ask the police if Stephen Lawrence and his mate Dwayne had been evicted from the local boys club for threatening white boys with knives, |

It is attached to the pliers, screwdrivers, file, torch and other tools on the multikit I always have clipped to my belt. I use it everyday. Why should I pander to a nanny state and give up a useful tool just because some would-be macho brats abuse theirs? |

I have taken a knife out with me, very rarely but i have to admit i have. This is mainly because im from a very rough area and plenty of times i have been chased and beaten up by a group of around 10, all on my own.
So if i go out on my own then i have taken one to make me feel safer. When im coming home late i dont want to be unprotected i want to feel safe, the police never come round our area they go round the places that there is no trouble.
I never intend to use it but i dont think people who live in nice areas realise how awful it is for others out there |

I don't carry a knife I use a walking stick because of having a dodgy knee. Most idiots that carry knives are drunk or emotionally disturbed while they're slashing out so they're not concentrating on what they're doing - it's amazing what a well placed walking stick to the throat will do to calm the situation down.
Emyli M - If you fell out of a plane, you'd need a parachute before you ever needed a knife! |

people carry knifes because they think its cool and think its fun to get in to fights!!! Its really silly and i don't understand why people want to be 'gangsters'!!! |

A knife is a tool, an inanimate object designed to make the performance of a certain task easier. Same for a gun.
I carry a knife because I find the need to cut things like rope, gaskets, etc. on a regular basis and find using my teeth to be a lees than efficient way of doing this.
To everybody who depends on a knife, as some sort of magic talisman to protect them, or view those that do as some sort of nut case..... grow up. The manner one chooses to defend themselves is a PERSONAL choice, and in certain places it is a wise move on their part to be properlyy prepared. |

A pocket knife is just handy. You can use it for anything from prying into plastic boxes to cleaning the gunk from under your fingernails. Very useful little thing to have in your pocket.
Most people who carry a knife aren't using it as a weapon or for protection. Sometimes they just come across things in their daily lives that they just need to cut. |

Living in Chicago. I strongly feel it's necessary to carry some form of a weapon, just in case anything was to happen! So you can defend yourself. Or even some mase attached to your keys are good! |

It's easy to carry a knife, and you probably need it like once a day for some random thing.
Also, it might help me if someone tried to R or mug me. Don't let yourself go unprotected- criminals sure don't. What if I fell out of an airplane and had to hunt to survive? I'd have a knife! |

Most think that's the best & easiest thing to use for self-defense....You can get it a gas station. |

Agreed, a gun is far more useful. |

I'd rather have one and not need it, than need it and not have one. |

some people are cowards and that is why they carry knives, some people do it to show off in front of their friends, sometimes it is peer pressure and other times it is for protection. carrying a knife or a gun can never lead to anything productive and the sooner kids realise this the better! |

Ah. You're a social work student trying to get the youth view, aren't you?
The reason isn't hard to understand, just transpose the answer you;d get for carrying a gun in America.
Why carry a knife? Because *everybody else* is carrying a knife. Obviously. |
