The Second Amendment, as passed by the House and Senate, reads:
“ A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. â€
However, the copies of this which were distributed to the states, and then ratified by them, read:
“ A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. â€
Both versions are commonly used in official Government publications. The original hand-written copy of the Bill of Rights, approved by the House and Senate, was prepared by scribe William Lambert, and hangs in the National Archives. |

its the second amendment right to bear arms. this way, the government has the threat that we can revolt, we are armed. It was to avoid tictatorship. Arm all so no one person can take control |

The USA does not "legalize" guns -- they always were legal. Our Constitution says it is one of our basic rights, and we don't "illegalize" them because we respect our Constitution. (and when I say "we," I mean "some of us.")
I think it is "very stupid" that you think USA is the only country where guns are legal. |

Back yard swimming pools in America kill more kids every year than guns in homes do. Want to make them illegal, too? |

We like guns. We like to be able to protect ourselves. We like the sport of hunting and target shooting. We want to be able to use guns against a tyrannical government. Which is why we have the second amendment. |

Give me a break. The USA is NOT the only country in the world in which its citizens are legally able to own guns.
And see the above post about what happened in Australia.
Lots of things kill people. I have an idea. Why don't we make drugs illegal...oh wait.
Yes, it's a cliche but guns don't kill people, people kill people. The only way to lower violent crime is to focus on what created a perpetrator, not what weapon is used. |

The USA is the only country that gives the citizens the right to bear arms. 99% of the citizens that havr guns treat them with respect and only have them for hunting or protection.
In the other countries that have taken that right away 100% of the people that have guns are criminals.
Now which country do you want to live in. |

ask Australia how they like their anti-gun laws. Crimes involving guns are through the roof. Smart call there! |

. Some Australians (approximately 5.2% of Australian adults[1]) legally posess and use firearms for hunting, the control of feral animals, and target shooting.
All firearms in Brazil are required to be registered with the state. The minimum age for ownership is 25 and it is generally illegal to carry a gun outside a residence. The total number of firearms in Brazil is thought to be around 17 million.
Citizens of Canada under the age of 18 but over the age of 12 may procure a Minor’s Licence which does not allow them to purchase a firearm but allows them to borrow a firearm unsupervised and purchase ammunition. Children under the age of 12 that are found to need a firearm to hunt or trap may also be awarded the Minor's Licence. This is generally reserved for children in remote locations, primarily aboriginal communities that engage in sustenance hunting.[7]
By law, as of January 1, 2001 all firearms in Canada must legally be registered with the Canadian gun registry.
n Finland there are over two million licensed firearms (which is more per capita than in the US) and an estimated quarter of a million unlicensed firearms.
Mexican constitutional rights have long included the right to bear arms. The 1857 Constitution included the right to bear arms:http://answers.yahoo.com/question/;_ylt=AtRr3JReA_DD2sZPxDvTtmXR7BR.?link=answer&.crumb=kH6eTP1BUtu&qid=20070419215807AA8p5Ar&.done=http%253A%252F%252Fanswers.yahoo.com%252Fquestion%252Findex%253Fqid%253D20070419215807AA8p5Ar
Yahoo! Answers - Why does USA legalize guns?
In South Africa, owning a gun is conditional on a competency test and several other factors, including background checking of the applicant, inspection of an owners premises, and licensing of the weapon by the police introduced in July 2004.
As you can tell now...there is ALOT more countries than the US that legalize guns. Beisdes not everyone who ownes a gun will shoot some one but its nice to have for home protection. I would rather be armed than the criminals being armed and I'm not. People will alwatys have guns its just a matter of who has them |

How old are you?
I think it's stupid when you don't have the right to protect yourself against criminals who can get guns when honest citizens aren't allowed too.
I own a gun and I also have a state sanctioned permit to carry it concealed on my person. And I refuse to give up that right. |

so that we could protect ourselves from criminals. lets say a female lives by herself and she didnt have a gun. if some guy wants to rape or kill her, he would most likely succeed. even if she gets to a phone (and thats a big if) and contact the police, they wouldnt get there in 5 minutes. and even if they got there in 5 mins which is highly unlikely, something bad happened already, 5 mins is a long time in a situation like this, the perp wouldnt even need a gun. all im saying is guns make the fight equal. |

Look up "Second Amendment of the United States Constitution" for more information.
And if you think that the USA is the only country in the world that legalizes guns, you need to read up on the subject. Start with a little country called "Switzerland". |

This question that you posted is actually related to the issues of Gun Control and Gun Rights. Please see the links below to get an idea of the ongoing debate between these two camps.
To answer your question: Basically, the right to bear arms was given in order to preserve democracy in America. That is the gist of it. Whether from external attack, or to topple a corrupt government, these arms can at least ensure the people a means to throw away the shackles of oppression. Thus, ensuring that freedom/liberty lives on in the Land of the Free. |

Hitler thought the idea that the people should be able to defend themselves from a totalitarianist dictator or street gangs was stupid too. So did Stalin. And so did Mao.
Millions died. |

because we have the right to bear arms and if nobody used guns then in crimes they would use sharp objects that cause slow and vary painful death |

Yes let's get rid of the guns, criminals first cops second then the law abiding citizen. Many have died for the right to own a gun along with many other freedoms WE have....don't forget it! just because some moron go on a rampage-it is not the majority of the people, in a situation, the law abiding gun toting citizen, may save you from getting killed, or someone you care about. Should cops carry guns? why they work for us, the people. Military, fist fight????? Come on, it is a responsibility issue not a gun-the gun don't pull it's own trigger! |

When people realize that it is their lack of moral fiber in this country that is the problem, not the gun.
people want to blame anything and everything else for the problem but themselves and look for short term solutions for long term problems that will not work.
I read a Bumper Sticker once that said:
Dear God, why is their so much violence in school?
God replied: " Dear concerned student, because I am not allowed in school".
Every since Madeline Murray O'Hare had prayer taken out of school the violence has risen dramatically, but secular people refuse to accept that reason and fabricate psuedo reasons for themselves in an attempt to justify immorality in every phase of life in this country, justifying all sorts of profanity and immorality all in the name of social tolerance when they themselves are hypocrites for doing so because they preach social tolerance but refuse to accept Christinaity.
If you preach social tolerance than you accept Christinaity, it is all the way or nothing, you don't just pick and choose what is "comfortable" for you. |

it may be to reduce or controle their own population ... nobody is sick anymore in the wild west mate ! or they want to be able to defend themselves , and I can understand why , after reading how the police of virginia state stopped the corean shooter ... it's not very efficiant specialy in this state where it's very important to keep the right to get a gun in your "pocket" |
