So my bf and I got pulled over for not having his headlights on at night. few weeks later we then received a letter saying that we owe $207.
Someone please tell me why we got fine for $207 just for forgetting to turn on the headlights.
side note: my insurance proof in the car was expired and i didnt have the updated proof with me. Is that why its soo high? is there a way that i can actually have the bail amount lower? i looked around the internet about how much it should cost for headlight violation and people said that it should cost about around 150 but im looking at my bail amount which is way more than what people said that it should be. Please anyone who works in the law enforcement help answer these questions!

The base fine for this was really only $35. All the rest is various assessments which are placed on all fines in California. The judge can excuse some or all of those extra fees upon a showing of hardship. Some judges do that a lot, others less so. |

With its too many people, California is too expensive and you can feel it down to minor traffic violations. You should move to Texas it has beaches, mountains and deserts at a cost of much less. |

Because it will teach you a lesson for being completely stupid. Forgetting headlights sounds like a small issue, but it can easily get you or other people killed. Thats a darwin award waiting to happen. And not bothering to put the updated insurance card in your car is just plain lazy. Get it together, pay up and maybe you'll remember these things in the future because of it. |
