Obviously the government are in the driving seat. We are far too soft on offenders and many do gooders believe that being locked up for long periods of time does not re-abilitate.
Also the prison population is at an all time high. The government do not want to spend money on building more prisons and therefore they direct that the less serious offenders are not sent to prison and given more community based punishments.
I personally am disgusted at the lenient sentences given to some serious offences. Murderers that have walked free after 15 years, only to kill again.
We need to bin the Human Rights Act, because all it is used for is as a charter for the rights of offenders. When were the rights of victims ever considered?
In my view the PUNISHMENT should fit the crime, which very rarely happens these days. We should sort out the so called prison holiday camps with TV's, computers, gyms, and other such privelages. Offend and you lose the right to say how you should be treated. |

Compared to what? It's a lot better than nothing, and better than any of the alternatives people have come up with. |

How exactly can you say it doesn't work? That's a very broad statement. I mean, sure, it's impossible to turn every single criminal around and make them anything useful to society. Our cops do the best they can with what they have to work with, considering small budgets and not enough of them out there, so with what we have, it "works" IMO... |

Its not perfect, but it never claimed to be.. i could tell you stories of where I think its messed up bases on cases I have won or lost myself, but I am not the judge or the attorney presiding over the case. There are some problems and we need to work on them. Praying for the decision makers could not hurt |

Well said Bear. I don't think I can add anything to that except to say I feel sorry for the Police Officers who have arrested a criminal and then see that criminal walk free with a smirk on his face. |

1. Bleeding-heart liberals care more about whether convicted felons are comfy in the slammer than they do about victims of their crimes --
2. When the Supreme Court was infested with liberal judges they worked hard to keep the liberals mentioned in #1 happy. |

Because there are no prevention, rehabilitation programs, jobs, and help for criminals because our government would rather spend the money on foreign aid and useless wars. |
