Because people are not raised to respect others. It is a major failing in the newer generations & lawless people coming into this country illegally. |

Because they don't earn respect. The PCO's round here think they are gods gift but when something serious happens they never turn up or they just don't bother. Abuse of power leads to lack of respect which leads to loss of control. To get it back they had better start looking after all their local folk and listen and be approachable not power mad! |

because the little neds know that they can't be touched , or if they do end up in court then they will get off with it anyway.

Although the question is a bit general, I would venture that it is because the profession has lost a great deal of respect with the amount of lying and deceit among an unfortunate small number of police officers. |

I think because there are to many drug addicts.Something needs to be done about drug abuse. From what I hear there is a problem at most schools. They are starting younger and younger.I understand there are many adults that need their next fix as well. |

This is not a question.
Another loaded pro-BNP pile of claptrap from Roy West, failed local election candidate and who thinks he's above the rules regarding Yahoo. |

Ok I'll be serious for this:
-There are long term social trends that led to this: fragmented families, poor neighbourhoods, influence by the media which is full of lies (cliche but true), increased division caused by rich and poor.
-The government isn't receiving enough in tax from the population as the ratio of workers to expense has increased (e.g. pensions). And with the reduced tax they spend less on police. There has also been a New Labour fad of shrinking police coverage into so-called mega forces (with less coverage)
-In urban areas the police opted for fighting gun crime with guns - which was the wrong choice; it can only lead to an upward spiral of more gun crime.
-Society deals with crime by throwing almost innocent people in with hardened criminals, who then become friends and pass on their wicked ways. They punish rather than reform newly accused.
-There isn't enough reasonable discipline in schools as the threat of a lawsuit looms. This gives people free reigh as they grow older.
-People are less trustful of police when they are heavy handed or mis-use their authority, as happened to me.
Despite this I feel many police definitely have good intent, have to play a role though they may not believe in it and have no way near the resources they should have- because some politicians are off spending it on million pound pre-election campaigns or defence. |

Change the dinosaur sentences, stop being nice to criminals in the courts, make the prisons so bad, so fecking terrible, that no one would want to go back.
And as for the kids stoning the Fire Brigade and making the streets a living hell. Stick them away for a long time and stop being fecking sorry for them!
The laws and sentencing of this country is where the problem really lies, they are to soft! |

It's a matter of "never having control"...the mentality of "control" is what has ruined Police relations to this date. In most cities it's impossible for a ratio of 1 to a 1000 people for that one to have control. Not only that, how did you feel when your parents tried to control everything you did? You didn't right? It's the same thing. Police establish order by guidence not control.
But the the new generations focus on the few bad actics of Police without looking at the whole picture. Like the officer that had to gun down a suspect, because the suspect was trying to kidnapp a child at gun point. The media looks at the "Police gun down a suspect" aspect. The issue is that they never look at the good things these guys are doing removing criminal, pedephiles, burgulars from the streets...all while trying to guide citizen to police themselves and taking the heat for "trying to control the streets".
They never "owned" the streets, they just try to deture crime, and make you feel safer. |

The reason is because Law Enforcement does not have a social contact with the locial person on the street. And the lose of having a personal relationship with the street people. In the old days of the 50's & 60's the police walked a beat and the local officer new everyone on his beat my name, address, church they went to, and many of a personal family member on a first name basic. But no today since they are in cars driving allover the cities and towns. They have lost the personal touch with the people, and no more to close to the pulic. |

because they are less than hopeless againced the modern criminal. ive seen them up againced the modern criminal when my car and my drum kit were stolen. the 5 guys that did the crime were only in their mid teens. but they made the police look like second rate amatures to be honest! i think the police are engrossed in the only job they are fit for. revenue collection. |

Because the parents have lost control of the children.
Because drugs are prohibited, allowing the criminal to flourish. If they were all legalised and controlled by the state then there would be no room for the criminal.
Because the punishment for the crime does not fit the crime, the youths causing trouble have no fear of the punishment and thus no respect for the law enforcer. |
