It's just further proof that the US legal system is fatally flawed. We give preferential treatment to celebrities, when in fact they should be held to an even higher standard due to their constant presence in the public eye. We try to ruin the lives of first-time non-violent offenders, yet career criminals have their own revolving door through the judicial system.
The main problem is that the hardcore criminals (gang bangers, drug syndicates, murderers, rapists, molesters, etc...) aren't afraid. They know the law better than the average law-abiding citizen. They know what they can get away with where, without risking too much. Even with just a public defender, they know that in X amount of years, with good behavior, they'll be out.
Yes, there are some states that have the "3 Strikes" rule, but you know what? That's giving them too many chances. There are some states that impose the death penalty, but by the time an execution can be followed through, umpteen years of appeals have been exhausted, as well as millions of taxpayer dollars.
Until the code of law is rewritten to properly enforce and punish the offenders, people like us will continue to have no recourse but to sit back and ask "what the f***?" |

Our law system is stupid. Someone can get raped, and the guy that did it get in no trouble at all. Someone can tell the full truth in a courtroom, and still come out a victim. It always depends on the case, and amount of evidence. |

Good question. The fact is we, as a society, have come to value dogs more than people. |

I think anyone who hurts a child or an animal should be put in jail for a long, long time. Children and animals are both innocent and helpless. Anyone who would willfully hurt them is a monster! |

I cant understand it myself being i work in the criminal justice system. to watch them lust after small kids in visitation is disgusting. maybe a fine or community service but not several years in prsion its unheard of. at least he admitted it. molesters never do. |

like I have always said there are those who think more of their animals than they do their own kids....crazy and very stupid but so true.... |

Just hope one of the police officers accidently lets those in jail with him know exactly why he is there. He may have some different views when he gets out. |

Personally I think both offenses require serious jail time. Our system has lots of flaws but its the only one we have. Should child molesters get more jail time then dog abusers? Of course. But should dog abusers get alot of time? YES. Both are defenseless and have no idea why they are being abused. They are both vulnerable and unable to defend themselves. The Michael Vicks of the world and the pedophiles of the world should be sent to a special island where its run by dogs and children with good imaginations and have their punishment meted out there. Works for me |

It is so disgusting and you are so right to bring this point up. WIsh the idiots who were handing out sentences were smarter about these things. |

I think both crimes are heinous. |

I agree that child molesters should get a MUCH longer sentence then what they have. I think all molesters and rapists should get at least 10 years in jail and have to pay thousands of dollars to those they hurt! And I think people accused of dog fighting should have to spend one year in jail for every animal they have killed and for every animal they have injured send 6,000 to a local no-kill shelter. I think kill shelters should be illegalized too, but that's another story. |

It's about as logical as spending an hour in jail for posession of cocaine, and endangering people's lives driving recklessly under the influence. (example miss lohan....) VS
going to prison for selling stock .... (martha stewart) who wouldn't sell if they knew it would benefit them,??....
I agree that our system is pretty messed up.....
If our prisons are so crowded why do death row inmates spend years waiting for a shot that takes 5 seconds to inject? |

"On the news"
I was on a grand jury once and what they said on the news was NOT what was really going on. There may be more to the story than you know.
If it is true..that is horrible. |

It shows you how messed up this man made law system works, if you get caught with over 28 grams of meth you are charged with mandatory 10 years minimum no chance of doing a split sentence or nothing even if it is your first offence , now you abuse rape a defenceless chilled and you get a dam year, that for me shows how this f... up system is a load of crap and its all about money, feeding this dirty lawyers and judges who the hell are they to decide how long of your life should be taken away, i am not saying it isnt bad to sell drugs and that they shouldnt get punished but a chilled molester should have a worse charge than a meth charge. |

It has a lot to do w/ the judges & who is making the most noise. Male judges don't see molestation as the problem that it is & the continued damage to the one who was mistreated. The statues for time for molestation need to be adjusted to reflect just how heinous it is, by locking them up & throwing away the key. I am not an advocate for putting people in jails because it is a waste of taxpayer money but for this crime, murder & rape, lock them up forever! Usually once you have been convicted & done jail time for something, the next time it happens your jail time increases. This is how it is supposed to be but judges can do anything they want because no one is watching what they do like they need to be. Congress is supposed to be keeping an eye on judges to see that they follow the rules, but it does not happen this way. Too much corruption & not enough people caring about the problems w. the system. Molestations happen all the time but it rarely hits the news unless the child is murdered. Sad, but true. |

both crimes are terrible however i agree that child molestation has reached epic proportions the persons doing thi to our children should be castrated and hobbled so they cant go far orfast if &when released! |

Our judicial system is broke just like the rest of our government. My pet peave has always been white collar crimes whereas a slime ball can swindle a hundred elderly people out of their life savings -ruining their lives and being sentenced to a few years.
As far as your question, rapists and molesters should never see the streets again. |

What makes you think Vick is going to prison for years? I would be surprised if he does more than a year. |

see alot of people believe that molestation is an illness. so the lawyers play it up. and bring in these high paying doctors that want to make everyone happy and make a name for themselves. they havent diagnosed dogfighters as an illness yet give it time. |
|

I think that is a bit of an exaggeration.
Several factors come into to play for sentencing. Things such as prior record and severity of the crime. Also plea bargaining is a major factor.
But sometimes the media helps to add to the sentencing. That's a fact of life.
It's not a perfect system, but I cannot imagine being in another country and having to deal with their judicial system. |

child mo;esters should deff get more time in jail but why does that mean that dogfighting crimes should get less time? i dont think you know the first thing about dogfighting. its consider one of the most serious form of animal abuse. the dogs are straved and beaten bc that makes them fight better? all for some crackheads to hangout and gamble. its horrible soo please dont go around saying that its not as bad as being molested cuz its actuallyt worst |

I'm sure that there are some facts that you aren't aware of when you heard about this case. At least I would like to think so. Perhaps this guy just shouts inappropriate things at playgrounds. Certainly this is bad, but I'm betting that you assumed inappropriate touching or worse when you heard the word molestation.
Also, I assuming you are referring to dogfighting because of the whole Vick thing. Remember that he involved, or probably involved in a number of other things. They didn't charge him with racketeering only because he agreed to plead guilty other charges. It's important to remember that the news in America rarely reports all the facts about everything because facts don't entertain the average American and the news only tries to be entertaining now, not informative. |
