Why is everyone speeding?

I disagree with this statement which is most often made by those who only care about how fast they get to their destination without concern for other drivers on the road.

You can't control nature nor the actions of other drivers. The speed limit stands for the maximum safe speed for the best of existing conditions. You go above the limit...you endanger yourself and every other driver on the road.

Too often the results of an accident involve the fatality of another other than the responsible driver.

As for Wabash...call your local police and ask for additional traffic control!

I'm a paramedic and I go to car crashes all the time. It's funny to me how someone will crash, and it is clearly obvious they were speeding, yet they sit there with amazement and can't understand how or why they wrecked.

Why do people talk on thier cell phones when they drive?? Why do people eat while they drive?? Why do people put on make up or drink coffee or lots of other things that take your mind off the road...???? They all think it can't happen to them....

I don't speed. I'm not in a hurry. If I happen to run late, so be it.
It doesn't happen that often. I value life over time.

Speeders get to me too because they are dangerous and show little care or concern for anyone else on the road. They are the "ME ers."

Go to a local town meeting and talk to the other citizens about it. If you guys go with a Representative of a large group to the station and talk to the police, they will most likely step up traffic enforcement.

I used to speed because I was running late.
Now I follow the posted limit and if I am late it is my own fault, no reason to endanger everyone else because I am too slow in the morning!
Sometime others speed to keep up with the flow of traffic, other times we get "speed blindness" where we think we are going slower than we actually are.

I'll admit, I am a speeder. It's a habit thing, even if I am running early or on time I am going about 10 mph over the speed limit. Once you get used to going a certain speed in certain areas, going to the speed limit seems "too slow". I'll say it's more of a bad habit than intentions.

Time is money. I think it is reasonable to go 5-10mph over the speed limit, as the posted speed limits are usually way too low and a safer, faster speed can be sustained. If you are travelling 20+ miles, this extra speed can really make a difference, time wise. However, I do agree with you in the case of 20+mph over the speed limit, as that is ridicilous.

In my daily commute, it's the people going way too slow that I see as a hazard. Sometimes I see people riding in the middle lane, going about 10mph under the speed limit, with cars blowing by them on both sides. Also, sometimes these idiots ride out in the left lane, aka "the fast lane, or passing lane" for so many who don't know, and force people to pass them to the right. This causes conjestion and backup and I wish these people would just get out of the way or do the speed limit!!! Look in your mirrors people and respect the faster cars by moving over.

If they are going over 20+ above the limit they should automatically yank their licenses and impound the vehicle. When they can't get a license for 5 years after that they would think twice the next time! Life is too damn short to permit idiots like speeders on the same path with normal drivers! If they want to speed let them move to Germany and see how long it takes them to get a license there and how much it costs. It will be thousands and a long time before they can get behind the wheel!

i never speed in residential or commercial neighbor hoods to much traffic. on hwy go with the flow in traffic. but if hwy isn't packed i like to fly. so stay out of the left lane less you really are going to pass something. and even then i won't flash my lights or tail gate you. but if you could read thoughts oops won't go there but there not good. oh by the way don't worry yourself about controlling my speed. Mr trooper is hiding some where up there waiting for me. I need to get a faster car cause i get caught too much. I just got my 2nd reckless tkt in ten yrs a few months ago. cost me 750 bucks for lawyer and 500 dollars for fines and court cost to get it reduced to failure to obey traffic signs.

You cant change how other people drive, only how YOU react to them. People get tickets all the time, but it wont stop them from driving or speeding. I would actually be more concerned with the people who merge on a 65mph highway going 25, or the people who just blindly pull out onto a busy street without looking. They may drive slow, but they have no clue how to drive safely.

I used to speed everywhere, Probably because i felt invincible. Well, now I have paid thousands in fees and wont have my DL back for a year or so... So I drive the speed limit now.
