to James M...... there are many FEMALE FIREARMS OFFICERS in this country.
Get a grip, and stop being jealous of the fact that some women will always be more powerful, more intelligent and more hard working than you. |

It would first help if these wise people were to face an armed violent aggressor and then see if they would have the courage to face up to them before criticising the people who stand between them and us , you would soon be shouting foul or police if it happened to you and then expect them to risk their life to save yours. Always wise after the event are the leaders we do not need ! Aristotle 3500BC |

I would like to answer this question with a sensible and accurate response to a question that often sparks much debate on lawful use of force by police, Sadly it's just a sad lonely little fool asking numnut question to get a reaction.
I can only suggest that when you are robbed or mugged or someone points a gun at you don't dial 999, Dial 0800 CRACKHEAD! |

Why is it they have too????? a very loaded question!
Ripped apart buses, crowded tube lines, loaded planes, busy shopping area, not a lot of options when the chips are down someone has to do the deed when the order is up.
It is alright moaning after the event if it is a mistake, but, just suppose....you were alongside the mark... in that position would you be glad he is no longer a threat.
Certainly for the first few hours until the truth is revealed, Imagine how the cops must feel night after night now?, just because some of their fellow officers got a short bit of the investigation wrong....ahh! if only...Poor Menezes family how they must wish.
We have to except that these tragic accidents can happen or who would take up the cudgel on our behalf? |

There is nothing in either story indicating anyone got promoted, you moron.
As far as the second story, what would you do if someone came at you with a samuri sword? After you crapped your pants and cried for your mommy, that is. |

Do you think the police shoot people easily. No I don't think so. A police officer has to feel that it is absolutely necessary to shoot someone and f**k knows the whole thing is analysed and scrutinised to make sure that there was nothing else that could have been done. If someone was coming at me with a sword, I'd hope there was a copper with a gun on his way! Someone has to carry guns to tackle the violent society we now live in (I live in North London not far from Tottenham btw) and at least the police are trained to shoot and use them properly and legally |

Another thinly veiled question that is actually a rant!
How many profiles do you have now?
How many times have yahoo closed your profile, only for you to create another?
Your question is boring me so im not going to attempt an answer because you will only pick an answer that agrees with your rant. |

It's because of guilt. It's a psychological thing. If the Police were more open about these killings and somebody actually took the blame then we would all be a lot happier. |

I think Boris got it right in what he said in his letters to Sir Ian Blair, they are trigger happy. Good on Boris for refusing to withdraw the statement, he has risen in my estimation as I always thought he was an idiot. If there were proper enquiries in to these shootings instead of allowing the biased IPCC to investigate then the public would be a lot happier. Even the National Audit Office are saying that the staff at the IPCC are not properly trained to investigate cases. |

Corruption?
Hey! It was a question!!!
Actually, there is no indication of corruption in these particular incidents. However, it often is the case that the forces will sweep things under the rug, and try to keep it quiet.
I see nothing in those articles that indicates any promotions. I also see that the authorities did thorough investigations, and the officers were determined to have done their duties appropriately.
If a person is doing something wrong, and is threatening either the innocent people in a public place, or directly threatening the police, the police have the right to use deadly force to protect themselves and the innocent.
That is accepted in most of the civilized world! |

Actually the only time that happens is when its a certain situations like hostages or shootings but mostly with hard work. Here in Austin if a Cop shoots somebody its all over the news and investigated and usually the officer involved is fired! I have 2 brothers as officers and they work hard to try and get promotions. |

Usually the officer is given no choice. People know the rules.....Do what the policeman says! They deal with bad people every day...they don't know what kind of person you are. Some cops are mean, I understand. If you are doing nothing wrong, they shouldn't mess with you although some will. Just cooperate, be respectful and hopefully you'll be on your way.
I'm not sure why they would get promoted unless they saved someone else from getting hurt by the person they had to kill. |
