Why is it wrong to lie to an officer?

1. Because the officer may let you go with only a warning, if you appear candid and truthful with him.

2. Because the officer will testify at trial as to the lie you told him; this may impeach the credibility of your own testimony, and ultimately, your defense.

it's wrong to lie to anyone, regardless of who they are. why would you do that in the first place? you only cause more problems for yourself in the long run.

4. It can cause the proper perosn not to be charged with the correct crime

Becuase it misled him to a correct conclusion and application of the law. In addition the gravity of charges increases against you for making false testimony or perjury.

You have a constitutional right not to incriminate yourself. This doesn't mean lie, but it does mean that you can protect yourself from testifying against yourself.

Because it dosn't take a brain surgeon to see when somebody is lieing, and nothing ticks people off more than being lied to. So when you do it to an officer, your asking him to throw the book at you!!!!!!

I say you should lie to the police every chance you get and heres why: 1. you will get really good at it 2. Police officers are usually good judges of when someone is lying (either that or they just assume the person is until they find out) so if you can get one past I'll **** a brick.

If everyone lies, then how do they get anything done?
It will be a "he said, she said" situation.
There should be accountability.

There's this lack of authority in America now and this has got a lot to do with the current Commander-in-Chief who isn't exactly a pillar of integrity himself.
