Why is smoking weed illegal!?

Because the government can't tax it. Those in power aren't willing to make it legal.

It's not because it harms people. Alcohol and cigarettes are way more dangerous than weed. No one has ever died by overdosing on weed or using it too much. It doesn't cause any form of cancer (not even lung cancer).

In the simplest term, the majority of the people within the United States have made it that way through election of officials who have created bills and worked them into law.

It is illegal due to the will of the majority (people).

If it was legal trust me the government would tax the hell out of it - negating the other answers above whose argument vis-a-vie taxation.

I've heard that the Hearst Corporation lobbied hard for illegalization because they feared cheap hemp paper.

I don't really know if it's true or if that's the entire story.

But I'll bet the actual reason is just as silly and stupid.

And reform is difficult because any politician who tries is labelled as "soft on crime"

1- Marijuana is illegal because it is easy to grow, requires no industrial method of processing for consumption other than drying and can be used as an effective medicine by eating it or smoking it. Medicine than can be grown by anyone and not purchased would cut dramatically into the profits of large drug companies. They do not want their consumers to become self-sufficient for their medicines, they want you to depend on them for all your pills and ills.

2- If it were to be legalized the CIA and other insiders with resources and connections invested in the illegal drug trade would loose HUGE profits from selling illegal drugs. Bottom line is if you fight to keep certain drugs illegal and you are selling them at the same time you are increasing your profits and getting the public to financially support a War on Drugs, you're playing both sides and making a hell of a lot of money.

Also, the budgets for the DEA, law enforcement and the prison system would have to be cut for lack of people to incarcerate if it were no longer illegal.

3- If it were to be legalized there would be a call for a cut in the wasteful budget of the "War on Drugs", (that cost us roughly 12 billion in 2005) which is and has been a scam from the beginning that has done nothing to reduce the use of drugs in society.
I personally wouldn't be surprised to hear that the Partnership for a Drug Free America was actually a money laundering front for the CIA's world wide drug trade.

Things are so upside down in the media and the world now I wouldn't even flinch at this revelation.

At the end of the day i don't even know why its illegal lol its pathetic, theres many people being refered to hospitals for alcohol related **** and there have been know known deaths for smoking weed. its has no addicting substance in there either. its a good damn plant for f**k Sake lol.

well sometimes when you're under the influence of pot (or any other kind of drug, really), it does kinda mess with your head and make you do stupid things.
most likely--anything that gets you high is illegal.

Besides getting you strung out on food, it's a mind altering substance. It's effects will sneak up on you later down the line.
