In my state there is enhancement for a lot of homicides. A bus driver while working, a city social worker while working, firefighters while working and most public officials of any sort while working.
Obviously the state feels they have a duty to try to keep people working for them in public service safe.
Why should cops be left out? Just 'cause you don"t like cops? |

Why is it stupid? I think there's an enhancement for killing most on-duty civil servants. They have dangerous jobs to help regular people. Their jobs involve certain risks. Of course there will be extra deterrents against killing some people, especially people who often have to deal with angry, possibly dangerous folks. |

It's meant to be a deterrent against wounding or killing a peace officer. It's only natural that a person having a job to enforce law, peace and stability, enjoys a special protection by law. |
