Class 4 laser pointers like that are illegal in most if not all states. Generally, anything over 5 mW is ilegal and that one is 200mW
As to the death or injury rate due to laser pointers, I would guess it is far, far lower than that of many other potential weapons, i.e knives, firearms. Most of their ads overestimate their capabilities. You cannot burn someone's skin with it unless you hold it very close to them for a certain amount of seconds. A blowtorch would be much more dangerous. But of course shining it at a moving vehicle like a car or an airplane is a serious crime. |
