Why should there be stricter laws on gun control?
|
Additional Details If you say there shouldn't be then what if you were walking down the road and you just happened to be shot and killed in a drive by. The innocent are dying everyday from firearms. In VTech innocent people died they did nothing. Just because some insane person with problems of his own decided to take it out on 33 innocent people and your gonna tell me that's right? Then you are disturbed.

There should NOT be stricter laws on gun controls. An armed society is a polite society. Keep in mind that the police are not always going to be around to protect you from crime. Also, if you take the guns away from the people, you also take away their power. If our government became very tyrannical and "We the People" wanted to overthrow it, we wouldn't be able to if our guns were taken away from us.
They had gun control in Nazi Germany and it resulted in the Holocaust! Gun control is never the answer to our problems! These school shootings are hyped up in the media for a good reason. It's the perfect justification for removing our Constitutional rights to bear arms. Don't be fooled...do your research.
Try to think outside the box instead of believing everything the media tells you. The perpetrator of the Virginia tech massacre, Seung-Hui Cho, had all the signs of being a "Manchurian Candidate". He killed randomly just like a robot or a drone. It is very possible that the "government" brainwashes select people into being assassins. It's called mind control and it is very real. They usually target people who are already mentally unstable to begin with so that no one will question it. They do this in order to instill a sense of fear in the general populace. Don't be duped! Virginia Tech was supposedly a "gun free" zone and you can see what that accomplished! |

There shouldn't. Perhaps they should really punish the criminals that use guns. |

There should not be. Everyone has a right to arm themselves for protection against the government, thieves, other criminals. |

There shouldn't be stricter laws on gun control...what is needed is stricter laws on illegal use of guns. I like guns...and say you like fried chicken...well greasy chicken kills more people each year from heart related problems than does a gun. So should we have a control on fried chicken??? |

There should not be. As long as there are evil people who would do us harm, we must maintain the means to defend against them.

You don't appear to have a realistic understanding of the actual risk of being injured in a shooting. Either that or you're associating with the criminal element that most of us tend to avoid. |

we don't need stricter gun laws, we just need to enforce the laws that already exist. a thug without a gun is still a thug. what we need to deal with is the mindset of an individual who commits violent crimes. we need to ask ourselves as a society: where are we going wrong that violence is such a problem? the issue is a cultural one, and more legislation is simply treating symptoms. unfortunately treatment of symptoms seems to be the norm in America. don't punish law abiding citizens because of a relatively small group of individuals who don't want to play by the rules. don't punish those of us who know our history, and are all too aware of what happens when a population can no longer defend itself against would be tyrants. if one wishes to have gun control, I suggest moving to one of the many countries where the laws are stricter. this is not what was to be in America. our founding fathers had a vision of how a free society could stay as such, and many men and women have spilled blood in order to deliver on the promise of those founders. we must find a way to solve our problems with violence without compromising the rights of the people. |

No!
I'm from Sweden, and most people know we don't have guns, nor do we really allow them, except for a select few that use them for hunting, which is strictly controlled.
In a liberal's ears, this sounds great, doesn't it? Well, imagine this. You're walking down the street a dark June night, and you get mugged by two thugs. Sure, they most often don't have guns, but they have knives. And you have no way to protect yourself.
I now live in UT, and while there is violence here, I feel safe, because I know that I have the right to protect myself and my fiancé if need be. If we get mugged here, I KNOW that I have a way to protect myself, as does she.
So to answer your question... no. But make it hard to get a gun and a concealed weapon's permit. Really hard. And make sure guns only end up in the hands of sane, responsible people with no prior felony offenses on their record! |

I think the laws need to be much more strict, we need a mandatory armament and firearms training for every person in the country by age 12. the reason guns "are dangerous" is because only the criminals have them. we need a 5th grade class on gun safety and how guns work, and a 6th grade class in the shooting range.
mabye there could be some debate over the exact age, but c'mon we let 16 year olds drive cars, and that's a much more deadly device than a gun, and it doesn't require nearly as much reloading. |

Guns are very popular where i'm from. We have the highest rate of violent crimes in the country. I know of people who have been held at gunpoint. It's way too easy to get guns in certain places around town, and our city is reaping the consequences of this.
PS : if you look up the rates for violent crimes by city, you'll know where i'm from ( a southern city) Hint: elvis |

Just look at the bare statistics. The US has BY FAR the most gun violence in the industrialized world, even higher than some third-world countries. People keep saying you can't keep guns away from criminals, but the experience of other countries shows otherwise. |

I think guns should be allowed, but agree with the person who said it should be extremely hard to get a permit for one. And if a gun was used as protection without a permit then they should be charged with man slaughter where as if you had the permit then you may be free from any charges. But then having no guns is great and I think saf It really depends on the country, NZ police don't have guns on them and there is no need to have a guns in this country. |

Yes. It's ridiculous that ever Mary and Tom can go out and by a gun. I'm not saying take away everyone's gun. But there are a lot of people out there that shouldn't have guns that do. |

Guns are dangerous and we all know why...
"People kill people".
Harsher laws on criminals is a band aid solution you need to cut the source. Without guns there would be less accidental deaths, less gun related injuries and deaths in general.
Perhaps education is the answer... Who knows.
If we cut access to weaponary we minimise the impact it has on the violence that already exsists in the world. |
