Because one of the many duties of a correctional officer is to protect the lives of the inmates you are in charge of. Granted they may have done some pretty horrible crimes, underneath it all they are still people. |

Many people serve their sentence and go on to become productive citizens. |

because they are still people, who might be sick and need help just like anybody else.
They might be going through a hard time getting used to the idea of being locked up so that must be a powerful trigger. |

its the easy way out of watever they have done. they did it now they should suffer the consequences. |

One reason could be that if we did, their family would try to sue claiming their relative wasn't properly cared for. |

Don't you see what that kind of mind set could lead to? Euthanasia isn't condoned for terminal patients. And just perhaps, in some cases, it would make it easier for someone in charge to stage a suicide to solve a problem. We are supposed to rehabilitate prisoners not just keep them away from the masses. I would hope that we as a nation would have more compassion than that. You can't just let a prisoner borrow a knife to end their life. |
