Because those who don't want peace force those who do into war. Once those who have refused peace are beaten or convinced to make a peaceful resolution to conflict, there can be peace.

This is exactly what Condoleeza Rice is saying - that there needs to be a *lasting* cease fire i.e. either Hezbollah needs to be beaten or decide that they are ready to permanently (yeah, right) end their war against Israel.

Because some people desire power and control at all costs, (Sadam, Hitler, Satlin etc). and the only way to have peace is through war. These people will never peacefully negotiate or settle for anything less than total control and to enforce their will on others and hurt innocent people who disagree with them.

it's not the only alternative. maybe people what war, in our nature. peace is just a dream, motive for war. all you and i can do is just play our end strait pray and hope we go to heaven.

war n peace cannot co exist. one has to give way to other. war is not on the ground but in the mind of those who preach war (jehad or holy war). did any war settle the issue ever on earth. it is not known and can never be proved by any one that one who sacrifices himself in the name of religion reach into heaven since heaven is here on earth, in love, in friendship and co-existence with honour and dignity of other fellow humans and nature. war creates more destruction, create more orphans, more injured or maimed, economy and development are the first victim, hunger and death are synonym of war.
it is the religious leaders and crooked politicians who make fool of innocent young minds, push them to death and happily enjoys their lives sitting in safe places. the youngesters of every religion has to understand that to die in the name of Allah or God is not for what God have sent you to this world. they need to better understand their responsibilities towards their own parents, families, friends, society and human kind at large and shun violence.

A death toll of a few hundred in a war would have been seen as a major victory only a decade or so ago.

The use of military mite is there to propmt diplomatic solutions, such as we are seeing today in Lebanon, if we could get the death toll down to less that 100 before this happens then all the better.

What is better, 400 dead in two weeks or 4000 dead in six months?
If this can lead to diplomacy that will drastically reduced the dead through terrorism then I for one am for it

Because sometimes when you think that the fight is over, your enemy is just preparing a worse attack! Knock them out before it starts no more war! That was the only thing that Israel did right in military strategy! (7dy war?)

Because no one knows what Peace is all about without experiencing war. It make sense to recognize the value of peace if there is no comparison of how it is to be in war and in peace.
