2. Yes, file a police report so that the police will know that there is criminal activity in your area and will increase patrols.

that means they were going for some thing specific. they already knew what they where looking for but couldn't find it. and sure file a police report never to sure.

1. Someone might have driven or walked by or a light went on and they were scared off before they could take anything, probably some amateur kid a pro would have taken everything worth anything under 5 minutes.
2. If nothing is missing its a waste of time to file a report, the police will just file it there is nothing they can do about it. Personally I wouldn't waste their time.

I'm guessing that it was someone really drug-f**ked who was trying to steal it and realized at the last minute that they were in no state to tie their shoe-laces let alone drive. Or they could have been looking only for something very specific that they know they can sell e.g. the stereo or CDs.

I would file a police report myself and notify your insurance company. If you don't and it happens again then your insurance company might refuse your claim on the basis that you didn't report it the first time.

your car probably had a factory stereo which is not easy to pawn off or install in other cars

you should file a police report. your insurance may cover the damage

while they broke in they may have been spotted and criminals are smart enough to know that the crime is less until they leave with stolen goods so (like what was done in my car) the crook breaks in, removes things like the stereo but waits until the last minute as he is leaving to take anything with him because if he is caught by the police without stolen goods on his person the crime is much less

they were probably just kids from the nieghborhood messing around. They were probably looking for loose change or money you may have had in the car. They were obviously kids as they played with the lights pushed all the buttons and stuff a real crook wouldn't have touched so much and not taken anything.

this might be a case of attempted theft,or some people used the space in side the car for a few minutes .u can guess well.as a ritual to the occurrence you may go to police.the offender took care to ensure that the doors of car did not make sound while leaving it.

They will more then likely be back know they can get into the vehicle now, so will wait and steal it later.

i believe you should file a police report, this is breaking and entering.
furthermore to answer to your question one of two things: either some guy was too tired and broke into your car to rest, either the idiot could not even jump start eh car to steal it or he wasn't smart enough to notice anything was missing.
