Will a drug paraphernalia ticket in Colorado show up on a California background check? read detail below...?

I was not arrested, but did receive a possession of paraphernalia ticket from colorado Police officer. I went to court on February 3rd, and got a six month deferred sentence. The only stipulation was that I not get into trouble with the police in those six months and I have not. After the six months I plan on expunging this from my record, but that is not until August. I am applying for a job in california in May, so i will not have it expunged from my record yet. The place that I am applying does a background check before hiring. Will the ticket show up on the background check?

It really depends on how thorough the background check site is that the employer uses. One thing I usually recommend is that a person run a background check on themselves to see what comes up. Most people don't realize they can do that.

It all depends on the back ground checker. If you were applying for a job with the department of defense they would probably go to all of the towns you have lived in and physically check the court records for your name.

If you stay out of trouble then this might never be a problem for you. I wouldn't mention it. It's a misdemeanor and will probably not hit a state wide or national database. That is why many background investigators want to know where you grew up etc...

In the future never mention this town where you got the ticket and the chances of them finding the ticket is even less.

Yes, it will show up.

Even if you get it 'expunged', a good background investigator will find it and report it.

Be honest about your background, even if it's something not so good.

Not telling the truth in making an application is worse than some past incidents.

If you only got a ticket and did not get fingerprinted, you will not be in your State's database or the National database. You may be in a Court database but I think that doesn't count for background checks.

Criminal history is based on arrests where fingerprints are obtained. This is so a person is positively identified.
