Will cops purposely cite you a speeding ticket because it's end of the month & they need to fill their quota?

I got a speeding ticket for driving 50mph on a 35mph. And I am 100% sure that I was not as there was a heavy traffic and if I would have done that I would have bumped into another car.

So this cop stops me and says 'my attendant said you were speeding 50 on a 35'. Asks for my license and comes back with a ticket.

The place mentioned on my ticket where they apparently saw me speeding was 5 blocks behind and I feel he might be mistaken with my car instead of the one he was supposed to stop, may be we had the same colored car and even the make of it.

And now I want to appeal in the court because I know 100% I was not speeding.
Will I have to pay extra fees to appeal at the court??
How do I win this??? cuz I know the judge will most likely be on the cop's side but I am 100% sure I was not speeding.
And it is so frustrating when you know you are not at fault.
I live in Chicago suburbs (Dupage County).

Mattyboy, going 36 on a 35 and going 50 on a 35 is a HUGE difference! If he would have cited me a ticket saying I was speeding 36 on a 35 or even 40 or 42mph then I would gladly pay the ticket. But he said 50!! and I am darn sure I was not going 50!

The police do not have ticket quotas. As a cop friend of mine once said "Nope, we can write all the tickets we want."

To win you need to create reasonable doubt. Difficult to do with a radar ticket.

i think that quota is a myth passed down.i see them more beggining of months then at end sometimes.portage indiana.u will not be charged more if you fight the ticket.same fees apply,court costs and fines.wouldnt suggest this but i got out of 2 battery charges from taking it jury trial,court didnt want to go through the process and dropped my charges.

Fifteen over is too fast for a warning-and in Du page county you should know better all these towns are hungry for revenue so yes and the unfortunate thing for you is they most likely have proof of your violation, My advise for you is to go to court do the school and take supervision, Fighting this is not worth it unless the you are in danger of loss of driving ability or are sitting on a ton of money or have an attorney in your family! Good luck in court and slow down

he may have thought you were a different car, it does happen, you have every right to appeal the ticket but it may cost you if you lose. cops don't just stop people to fulfill a quota (I was a EMT and I'm friends with a bunch of Police Officers) if you're 1 over then they can ticket you

We never write a ticket accidentally, so yes - all our tickets are written purposely.

And if quotas were allowed by law, and if we were subject to them, you bet we'd write tickets because of quotas. Now you know why quotas aren't allowed.

I can't count the number of people over the years who have told me they are 100% sure they didn't violate some law. Then we sit down (or worse, we go to court) and watch the video of them doing exactly what they were 100% sure they didn't do. This isn't as applicable in a speeding case, but it's still quite true.

How do you win this case? You create reasonable doubt in the mind of the judge who, despite what you think, is not "on the side" of the cop.

Why are you complaining? A cop wouldn't ticket you if you didn't deserve it. Pulling people over and writing tickets is too much of a hassle for cops to just do it to anyone. You may not have been going 50, but keep in mind, if you were going 36 in a 35 that's still speeding!!

BTW, cops do not have quotas, thats common knowledge. If you don't want tickets, then slow down! It's as simple as that!

EDIT: I'm glad you're "sure" that you weren't going 50, but here's the kicker: How are you gonna PROVE it?

Do cops have quotas / "performance objectives" ? Some citys do and some do not.

If he was on a motorcycle then he is writing a ticket for everyone he stops because they are traffic vehicles rather than normal patrol cars.

If he was using radar his number should show the largest hunk of metal going down the roadway on his readout. Was there a bigger truck next to you perhaps?

On the ticket it says what day to appear in court if you feel that it was another driver then fight it in court. Tell the judge roughly how many vehicles where around you. A police radar can only detect one car and thats the closes one to them. they cannot individualy clock a car.

if happ. five blcks done be aware that the officer probably rode behind you to call in your tags before pulling you over(that is allowed). They do that for there own safety so the driver doesnt try to pull off or attack the officer.

idk bout all states but in the st of VA cops do have to write a certain amnt of tickets they why you see them out the most during the beginning middle and end of the month those are the times people get paid and go out drinking. so they look for drunk drivers. why you also you only see them out during big holidays as well.

NOTE: THE FINES DO NOT INCREASE BUT YOU MUST PAY THE FINES IN ADVANCE BEFORE APPEALING. IF YOU LOSE YOU PAY THE COST OF COURT.

in some states if an officer does not appear the case is rescheduled.

Sounds like the cop didnt get you on radar ("my attendant" = another person?) so that might help you fight the ticket. Claiming that he was just trying to meet his quota will not. If you appeal, the fines don't go up. Hopefully the cop won't show up to the appeal - if that happens, they dismiss the ticket immediately. Also, if you don't have a bad driving record, they just might decide to dismiss the ticket regardless.

Look here, I'm from a a ity where yeah you get pulled over if your young and black, it might sound racist but its not cause black cops do the same, they lie.so they can pull you over just to check to see if you have a warrant, so to the guy saying 1 mile over is breaking the law I say to you have you ever got pulled over cause because you were doing the speed limit, stopping perfectly at every stop sign, I have and he told me that I was driving to perfect and that didn't sit right with him cause I was too young
