Will the IRS get violent with me?
Find answers to your legal question.

Will the IRS get violent with me?

I owe them around 245,000 and I straight up told them to go to hell when they called me. I do not have any bank accounts for them to take or freeze, I completely own my cars and house, and I don't need to work anymore so I can stay in my house if i need to. What will they do? My cars are in a locked garage, so I don't think they can take them legally (at least Repo men can't, but they aren't technically repo so..)
Plus those wouldn't cover but a third of what I owe if I'm lucky.

The IRS can take your house and cars and sell them at auction to pay the back taxes.

I recommend that you interview several attorneys who specialize in tax law and have a great deal of experience in dealing with the IRS.

I recommend that you do not talk to anyone from the IRS at all.

If they contact you tell them that you are represented by an attorney and that your attorney has instructed you not to talk to them.

Give them your attorney's contact number and do not talk to them unless your attorney instructs you to do so.

The IRS is notorious for claiming that you owe far more money than you owe them.

For example one of my colleagues overpaid the IRS by more than 1 million dollars because the IRS said that he owed them the money.

I had my colleague contact the Tax Attorney who represents me.

The tax attorney demonstrated to the IRS that my colleague did not owe them the money. The tax attorney has since recovered that money from the IRS for my colleague.

Another responder has said that you should hide your assets offshore.

I STRONLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT ATTEMPT TO HIDE YOUR ASSETS!!!

By attempting to hide your assets offshore you not only increase the likelihood that you could lose your assets because many of the so called offshore banks are run by crooks who will steal your assets, but also you open yourself up to criminal prosecution by the IRS.

There is a good chance that if you owe the IRS any money, the amount that you owe is probably substatnially less than the amount the IRS says that you owe.

From what I have seen of people who work for the IRS, most of them are incompetent to marginally competent at best.

People who are competent at tax law do not choose to work for the IRS.

The people who work for the IRS are generally the dregs of the graduates of accounting schools and law schools that are not sufficiently competent to get a job elsewhere.

At best what they tell you is only partially true. Often they do not completely understand the tax law themselves.

In addition, part of their employee evaluation is based on the amount of money that they collect ofr the IRS.

Essentially the more money the IRS employees collect the better their evaluation and the more likely they will receive promotions and pay increases.

Employees of the IRS are not evaluated based on their competence, they are evaluated on the amount of money they collect for the IRS.

I recommend that you start calling some tax attorneys today.

If you value your house don't tell them to go to hell. Try to start paying your debt. Stop spending money you don't have.

Hmm.....you owe a quarter million dollars yet own your own home outright and are set for life? Right....

At any rate, if what you said was true (and I don't believe it is) the nice federal agents are going to show up one day to take you out of your house which now belongs to the government. But of course someone as financially prosperous as you probably already knew that.

technically, they can seize and sell your personal property, including house, cars, furniture, etc. they can attach any income you may have in the future, as well as any tax refunds. i would call a tax attorney if you'd like to avoid living in a cardboard box under a bridge.

Since you don't have any wages coming in. They'll put a lien against your house. They'll repo your cars, and yes they can.

And if they can't get it that way, they'll go after other members of your family.

Oh, and you will go to prison for tax evasion.

You can be arrested for tax evasion and your assets can be liquidated to pay your tax bill. You might want to get on the payment plan.

if you owe them then why not pay them......if you are in a position to not have to work then surely you have the money to pay.....they will place a lien on your owned property so that if you try to sell it they will get paid first.....they can also attempt to make your sell any unnecessary assets i.e. extra vehicles are considered a luxury .....also any type of income that you are receiving can be garnished...

on the upside.....they cant put you in jail for not paying your taxes....so long as the taxes that you owe them are not employment taxes but only income tax......you could do an offer in compromise however this would require you to report to them all assets that you have at which point they could make you sell.....further, if you die then all assets will be sold to pay the tax first and your beneficiaries could lose out significantly ~ for instance if your home is worth 750,000, the irs does not care about its value....they will merely auction the home for the value of your debt and your beneficiaries would lose the remaining 505,000.
if by chance it is employment tax that you owe there is something called a trust fund recovery which is specifically set up to pay a portion of those types of taxes when the taxpayer is not able to

they'll take you house, cars etc and throw you in a prison cell with a big dude named Tiny who will become quite fond of you

Yes, they can take your house and your belongings. You owe the money. They won't be violent, they will send repo men to gather your belongings then lock the place up and set an auction date. I would suggest you start paying it back.

Stereotypemebecauseyouknow
They will file tax liens on all your property, so the moment you want to sell anything they will be there with their hand out. They may even seize your house. I would not advise doing what you are because the penalties and interest will be much more than the principal someday. You need to find an attorney.

zapper23
They are experts with rubber hoses used in back rooms. Pay your debt.

Are you really that stupid? They can seize EVERYTHING you own. I would get a good tax attorney and have that person negotiate with them.

Ummm....You're talking about the FEDERAL Gov't here.

If they want to pursue what you owe them, they will. They will take your property, especially the items you own free and clear, and auction them. This includes your house.

You may not need the house becasue you may be doing a little time in prison.

BTW, I do not believe a single word written by you.

Your status would change from a civil case to a criminal case since you are purposely evading taxes. The Criminal Investigations branch of the IRS (the gun carrying kind) will start investigating you.
The IRS will more than likely seize your assets and liquidating them (liquidity means turning an asset into cash)
The IRS will not get violent with you, but they will defend themselves if you get the crazy idea of fighting federal officers.

If you are as well off as you say you are, I would suggest gathering as much cash as you can and find a way to wire it to an offshore bank account and leave the country. But if you owe $250,000 worth of back taxes you probably deserve to go to jail.

It's me!!
paying taxes is volantary. You do not have to pay if you don't want to. Legally. Look it up, I am right.
