Will the U.S. ever ban the gun?

No. There is enough of a population in the US to ensure that guns will remain legal. Remember, in the US, many people believe that guns = liberty and freedom from oppression.

In fact, the majority of gun crimes are committed by illegally obtained firearms, so new laws will not have any effect.

Not in my lifetime. Pro gun people think if guns are banned, only the police and criminals will have them. I see both sides of the discussion.

America is a massive place I cant be ars*d to check the population of the USA, but I do know you can do pretty much whatever you like with statistics.
I was always of the opinion that if there were no guns in America there would be no shooting, simply enough isn't it???
Now here are a few statistics that I came across the other day:-
Based on a population of 100,000 people in each country, here are the figures of gun crimes (per 1000,000)
(We will say the UK has a poulation of 50 million for example)
Gun crimes UK where (guns are banned.) 7206
Germany 8179
France 6316
USA 5278
Now we could debate this for ever, what is a gun crime? etc etc, any one really interested can check it all out via the search engine.
Any one not really interested but just wanting to let off a lot of hot air , then this is certainly the spot to do it... you have asked for opinions and you are getting them.
Oh yes I almost forgot, my opinion?
My opinion is that the American people collectively can make up their own minds, if an American comes onto this forum and gives advice on how the UK should be run, I dont like that at all!

No. History: Second Amendment Right to "Keep and Bear Arms" I strongly believe that guns don't kill--- people do. Instead of wasting their time in trying to ban guns they should enforce security in every school and not just have regular school police I think they should have a special tactical unit in every big school.

First of all let me offer my condolences for this horrible act of devestation.

I am British and pro gun ownership. I believe handguns,shotguns ,rifles and semi automatic rifles should be allowed for sporting purposes. Only with proper training, competency tests, Character, background, police and mental checks on a regular basis. I think its wrong for the pro gun lobbyists to say something like that because it is very stupid and just makes all of us who wish to enjoy the sport of shooting seem like paranoid gun nuts. I feel it also damages my side of things when the sole argument seems to be self defence when i believe it is the sport that counts and self defence is a just a handy by product of gun owner ship. You are correct in saying that it wouldhave just led to people panicing and loosing off rounds in all directions. Although if my idea of proper training and competency tests were allowed this might not be a problem. Americans have the right to bear arms i think this right should be earned.
Us Brits do not have this right even if we have earned it.

Countries like austrailia, New Zealand and Canada have firearms available and dont have the gun crime that america has. In britain most guns are banned but we still have a lot of gun crime comminted by criminals(mostly minorities) using illegally and untracable firearms that have resulted in many deaths including police officers. With the methods i have mentioned mentaly stable, upstanding citizens can enjoy the sport of shooting with legally owned guns while the criminals can still use there smuggled weapons.

I would certainly hope not, we need protection from a nuts like the one in VA. Do you really think banning guns would keep them from criminals? It would only hurt honest people trying to protect themselves

No...we (law abiding gun owners) will not allow it. Banning guns is not the answer. Look...Japan has STRICT gun control and the Mayor of Nagasaki was just shot. GUN CONTROL DOES NOT WORK. You CANNOT stop people hell bent on going on a rampage. He could have done similar damage with knives, a sword, an axe, a chainsaw...

reaction they cause the problem you give them the reaction and then they come out with the solution . looks like a black op from the info that has come out so far , so either way it will be used for that but as we seee through out history governmnet that disarms the people (hitler , stalin , pollpot and so on ) its important the american people keep the right to bare arms .

lets be serious, if guns were legalised here, there would be shootouts daily, all I can say is, if you aint got a gun, you cant shoot, please, never allow indiscriminate distrubution of firearms in the uk, we can learn from Americas sadness, too late for a lot of Americans,sadly.
