Will the law enforcement investigate a $600 credit card fraud?

Law enforcement dont investgate credit card fraud unless its over $2000 is that correct?
My friend stole my card, an Fcking spent $500, and i reported to police, its been 2 months, still nothing happend ,i read somewhere that says FTC or lawenforcement dont investigate a small amount like $500, if the person continue credit card fraud, he will be punished for over $2000, is that correct? Please some police professions answer this, thanks

BTW: ITs been 2 months man!!!!!police did nothing to him!!!!u guys keep saying felony this felony that, but the reality is his is still playing his playstation 3 at home,and enjoy wonderful life, i wanna this man going down!

i didnt get any loss, the mechanant told me they reported to the credit company and local police, but there's no further action ever happened

Law Enforcement will do a case on any credit card(identity theft).
Each credit card company will then pick up the case and review it for restitution.
If restitution is made to the bank, they may drop the charge(s).
Do you know what your friend may have told police? Could have said you gave him the card and when you spent $500, he got mad?
Would have to ask around to see where the case is. See prosecuting attorney. They may be waiting for other friends credit cards to show up and prosecute him all at once with 3 or 4 charges instead of 1?

I can only tell you that I have arrested people for credit card fraud for $20 at a gas station. It does happen.

Maybe they DID arrest him, and he's out awaiting trial. You won't know if you don't call and ask.

First of all you should have contacted your credit card company and have them jointly file the complaint. If your card is lost or stolen you are protected. Then it is up to the credit card company to reimburse you and then to file a complaint of fraud. In most cases the credit card company will not file unless it is over 3000 dollars here in Canada. Why? Because to prove the fraud you must have the victim, then a witness from where each and every purchase was made and that witness must be able to identify the person who used the card on that day. The credit card company must also provide an expert witness as to who the account holder was and who had permission to legally use it and then show the electronic record for each and every fraudulent charge.
Here in Canada we make the card holder file a claim with the credit card company to get their money back and then it is up to the credit card company to continue the file. However 99% do not continue the file and they reimburse the card holder once it is proved that they did not file a false report.
