I think there will be something done in light of all the media coverage. I don't think they'll be the first people to do this though!! I remember going to Rhodes a few years ago - and the mother of a family group getting extremely drunk - screaming and shouting abuse at her kids at 2am in the morning - waking up the whole apartment block - and was only 'calmed down' by hotel security who threatened to chuck them out if she didn't go to bed. OK her kids were older - but she went at them like a rabid dog! Just because you're 'on holiday' doesn't mean you can shrug off your responsibilities! |

I've known loads of British parent s to do this on a weekly basis in the uk and not get charged
i didnt think they could be charged by any other than Portugese police,
it wouldnt ov even of made the press if it wasnt for the Madeleine case |

At the risk of being beaten to death - didnt an (in)famous holidaying in Portugal couple say that parents all have different parenting styles? If this is the parenting style of this couple then I dont see why they should be punished. Unless its because they are working class. |

Only time will tell. There are other parents who have been neglectful of their children whilst abroad who haven't faced any charges.
It appears though, as with other cases, that there are issues of child neglect. |

I just posted a question about that, and I say well done to the hotel staff. I hope they do get charged with neglect. Its ok to go on holiday and enjoy yourself, but dont get legless to a point of collapse when you have your kids with you, thats just selfishness. |

Apart from murder and terrorism the police have no jurisdiction over people who commit offences in other countries. |

They should be sterilized and their children taken into care...they don't deserve to be parents. |

They should do.
I have two kids and i have never gotten drunk in front of them holiday or not. To do so in another country is even worse!
But then the McCanns should have been charged with neglect too but they weren't. |

People like this give all of us a bad name abroad. I'm not surprised they're Irish, they are irresponsible especially considering the abduction of Madeline, anything could've happened to those kids. It's lucky the bar staff were responsible enough to ensure the kids were properly cared for. |

how can they face charges they have commited no crime in the UK. you cannot be charged with any crime commited in another country so the answer is NO |

Probably not, the Portugese are very lax on parents who are irresponsible aren't they?
And the British won't be much different given the fact that the parents were at least with the children when they passed out - after all it is perfectly acceptable to go out and leave your children alone in apartments isn't it? |
