Will the police do anything about a stolen cell phone?

My sister and I don't speak and she stole my cell phone from my moms house. I had to call and suspend service the other day. She won't bring it back so I wanted to report her to the police for theft. She is always in trouble with the cops and yet she never receives punishment. She always gets out of it somehow. Anyhow, I would like to press charges. By law the cops 'should' do something about it right? Id imagine yes, but cops are so crooked around here. Thanks

I wasn't there at the time, I let my mom use it for a few days. My sister took it out of my moms purse and left. My mom told her to bring it back and she said she would but hasn't yet. Guess I don't have any more proof than that.

I'm not a cop, but I don't see why you can't file a complaint, although they might tell you it's a civil matter. (Small Claims Court) If you didn't see her steal it, it's not very easy to prove. If she admitted to it (won't bring it back) that is just more evidence, especially if you get her to admit it via
phone (if it's legal in your state) or email or such. |

I suspect the Police will tell you it's a family matter and that will be the end of it. |

They would report it and if it were turned in, you would get it back. But as it is, there's not much you can do. Cops have more important things on their minds. You should try to resolve this yourself...talk to your parents or her parents about the issue. |
