Nope. The Law Enforcement community is bent towards protecting the corporations and businesses and not private individuals.
You can see this when a persons steals a company vehicle and the police come to harass the individual but when a company fails to pay the employee the police will do nothing and claim it's a civil matter. Theft is criminal no matter who commits it. |

What on earth do you expect the police to do? They aren't social workers, they are there to uphold the law and nothing else. That said, to expect them to be omnipresent is completely unrealistic. The people you should have a grudge against is the Government who prevent the police and courts from doing their jobs effectively. |

When my then 85 year old mother was attacked and tied up in her own home the support the Police gave was tremendous. their only difficulty was that she was so frightened she would not attend court when they got one of the people who attacked her. the police realised that at her age she would have made a very poor witness. He got three years my Mother got the next and final 7 when she was to afraid to leave her home. That was not the fault of the Police |

The police has a job on there hand. The justice system is a shambles. If you have a drug habit in this country you seem to be above the law. They shoplift knowing that is they are caught they will get off most of the time. I had my house and works van broken into last year. The police came out gave me a crime number for my insurance, that was as far as it went. I had to claim my insurance now the premiums are all up. We should adopt the American system of the 3 strikes and you go down for life. Would be a deterrent to persistent offenders. Clean the streets up a bit. |

The police are here to enforce the laws, the world has more than it's share of scum. Unfortunately the police can't be everywhere and stop every crime. The majority of police do their best. People have the duty to report things to the police that are against the law and many times they don't. We all can get evolved in help the police do their jobs. |

The government run the police. They introduced the Human Rights Act which has only helped to shift the balance further away from the victim and more towards the offender.
The government are instrumental in the make up of the Criminal Justice Sytsem. The very same one that allows paedophiles to walk free, and gives derisory senteneces which really only mean half that anyway!!
As it stands there is no deterrant. They don't care if they are arrested beacause the courts will give them a slap on the wrist, followed by another, and then another, etc, etc. It s just a joke to these kids.
We are bogged down in more government red tape than you would believe. Hence the lack of officers on the streets. The government want more PCSO's with less powers. What happened to more officers with less red tape?
As for gun crime I think that the government in some ways are going in the right direction, however I would up the minimum sentence for possession of firearms. A 5 year sentence generally means 2.5 - 3 years, which is not enough.
In my job I have many dealings with the effects of gun crime and see little deterrant for those that carry them.
We deal and target many drug gangs whose members are suspected of having access to firearms (mostly pistols because they can be discreetly hidden). Most of the gangs and members in my area are black (I'm not being racist and I say this from my knowledge of them) and think nothing of shooting at other gang members.
Despite the heavy presence and targetting of these individuals, for them it is business as usual. They are fully aware of us but are happy to take the risk. We chip away at them but invariably as one is sent down another is released. |

I'm with James M. on this one. Most yobs are afraid of cops and cops will readily arrest them if they catch them in a crime. Would you rather the cops start rounding people up without just cause? |

I'm sure you've heard the term 'No witness, No justice'...and it stands true.
What is needed in this country (UK) is for the general populace who are law abidding and honest folk to make astand against the thugs and rogues who seem to have our towns and city's in a grip of fear.
We can't blame the police or anyone else in the Justice System for the culture that has developed in our once pleasant country...we have developed a blinkered view that shuts out all that is wrong here, and if its 'not in my backyard' ignoring it.
Its the general public who have allowed a yob culture, by not standing up for their rights to have a quiet and peaceful life free from crime.
Public pressure can make massive changes, and working with the police the law abidding can claim back their towns and make it uncomfortable for the criminal fraternity to take a greater hold.
Once parents start to take responsibility for their offspring and give them responsibility for their actions instead of trying to offload onto anyone else but 'little Jonny or Jane' then perhaps the police will be able to offer true support to victims and that could be supported by the community. |

All they are really interested in is the criminal.
If you need the police, they take hours, maybe a day to arrive, BUT if they need you for information or anything else, they are on your doorstep like bats out of hell.
The British Police needs a serious review of service. It's rubbish. |
