Will this greatly hurt my chances of becoming a police officer?

I would like to know if my background will allow for me to be a police officer.
Pros:
-I am a police explorer.
-I have recently completed about a 30 hour internship with a police dept.
-I am 17 years old.
-I plan on getting a criminal justice degree.
-After college I am joining the military.
-I will soon be a community police officer.
Cons:
-I smoked marijuana on about 10-15 occassions.
-I was caught shoplifting from a store, charges were not filed, I was released to my parents.
I know time is on my side, but in 8 years will this greatly affect the hiring process. I plan on being completely honest during the hiring process.

well they dont know that you've smoked marijuana
and if they didnt charge files when you were caught shoplifting, then its not on your records, therefore they wont know. and even if it was on your records, your records get cleared when you turn 18 :) |

No as long as your drug test is clean and when you take your polygraph you are honest that you did smoke in your life and you did shoplift youll be good. |

Well you are still young and in most places you can't be a police officer until you are 21. I would join the military for 3-4 years and then you should get extra civil service points when testing. The fact you shopped lifted as a juvenile should not hurt you but if asked to disclose it during a polygraph or voice stress test I would. Smoking marijuana well I wouldn't do it ever again. |

You will be fine. The don't care all that much about marijuana use. That shoplifting thing will be long forgotten and considered a trangression of youth. |

no, in 8 years your piss test will be clean. granted you stop smoking 2 months before the actual test.

I do not see where your background hurts your chances, i would leave the smoking marijuuana alone, the shoplifting was never filed and keep on going to school and be the best Police Officer you can be. |

As long as you have no felonies you're good to go. Even with felonies I think you can become a cop though. |
