Would a policemen today use a Colt .45? Police?
|
Maybe, in like Texas, or the west or something? A 45 revolver is a six-shooter, with the round loading chamber, and one of the oldest firearms ever made. Do all policemen use the same gun? Who would use a 45 revolver today, in 2009? Additional Details 45s seem like they would be extremely ineffective, but more powerful. Why would they?

I wouldn't rule any thing out. I seem to remember reading somewhere that an officer did in fact carry a single action .45 Colt on duty. Yes, it was out west somewhere. Small town one officer departments have a lot of leeway when picking there sidearms. Elected Sheriff's in big jurisdictions are also more figure head than beat cop and may dress for show.
While not ineffective, a .45 caliber hole is still a .45 caliber hole, but having to c0ck the hammer for each shot an snail paced reloads it isn't bright in this day and age. As for power the .45 ACP was made to mimic the older .45 Colt round and if you want real power you need to look for towards the .357 magnum round. |

No police officer would use one today. The semiautomatics they use today are much more efficient and faster shooting and hold more rounds(14-16 compared to 6 in the colt) than the old Colt .45. Most officers use the same type of gun...the Glock in .40 caliber mostly. Who would use the .45 revolver? Mainly just someone who wants to plink or a western show person. |

Revolvers still are present in today's police world. The few in use would be double action revolvers capable of rapid reloading with speed loaders. The single action revolver like the Colt .45 is no longer an acceptable weapon due to its low rate of fire and slow reloading features. |

It is improbable that a law enforcement officer in this day and age would carry a Colt single action revolver. There are more effective calibers available now, the ,40 SW caliber is by far the most popular today. Law enforcement officers carry Glocks, Sigs, H&K, S&W, Ruger and firearms of other manufacturers. The type and caliber of the weapon is usually at the digression of the Chief LEO of the jurisdiction. Just to set the record straight the .45 colt is a revolver round, the Colt single action revolver was first used in the early 1870's the .45 ACP came along later and was developed by John Browning for use in the Colt 1911 Semiauto. |

Probably not. Revolvers are still used, and maybe a small police department somewhere might use a 45.
Most law enforcement types use semi-automatic weapons in 38, 9mm, or 40 calibre. |

A Colt .45 is not a revolver, it is a semi-automatic pistol commonly referred to as a 1911. It is an extremely effective weapon. The .45 cal round is one of the best for knock-down power. But most officers do not carry one, a lot of SWAT officers do.
No, not all departments carry the same weapon. One of the most popular today is the Glock in either 9 mm or .40 cal. While it is a good weapon, not my favorite. I prefer the SigSauer in a .40 cal. It is a more precision weapon. Others carry a Beretta or a Smith & Wesson.
Pistols are the weapon of choice due to the higher round count. Revolvers are still carried by some old-timers, and will do the job just fine. It is not how many shots you hit the suspect with, it is the accuracy of the shots. |

the 45 was developed during the phillipine war to stop rebels that were using drugs.get hit with a 45 and you will die.45 was used mostly by the military in automatic pistols as a side arm.currently the USA military use .40 cal. also the police use .40 cal. |

They wouldn't. What makes you think they would? Police tend to carry weapons designed to stop rather than kill. Like glocks, they don't destroy when they hit but they hit hard. And they are a good hand gun with multiple rounds. |
