There would be certain physical requirements, like say being able to tackle a 250 pound man. A dwarf would not be disqualified because he was a dwarf, however, it is highly unlikely that a dwarf would be able to pass the physical requirements.
If I have a job, and that job involves lifting 100 pounds over your head, it is not "discrimination" for me not to hire you if you can't lift 100 pounds over your head. What am I supposed to do, hire you and then turn around and hire someone else to really do the job I need done?
Physical requirements have been abused - like say airlines used to refuse to hire stewardesses who were too fat, but when push came to shove, they could not prove in court that there this actually was a requirement of the job that needed to be done. Having said that, I think the dwarf cop case wouldn't be in the same boat - I'm sure the judge would throw out any discrimination charges.
A dwarf certainly could get a job as a dispatcher for the police, or perhaps a PR spokesman, etc. There are police jobs that a dwarf might qualify for. |

A police officer needs to be able to drive a patrol car, subdue violent suspects, run quickly, and do other things that a dwarf can't do. It's not discrimination if the person can't meet the job requirements. |

It wouldn't be discrimination if there was a physical requirement that the dwarf was unable to meet. The key would be whether it was it applied uniformly to all applicants... |

no because cops need to go through training and dwarfs arent normally fast and cops need to be able to run |

Yup, it would be discrimination. i'm not sure that they wouldnt be as good an officer, but it is discriminating by not letting them be an officer. Merry Christmas! |

There is a height requirement to be a policeman. Dwarves must be tall enough to meet this requirement. |

There are physical requirments that a "dwarf" may not be able to accomplish. |

I see "dwarf" COPS all the time so I don't think agencies discriminate..... |

There are certain rules and regulations, age, etc. I am sure height is also one of them, so it would not be discrimination. |

No. There are rules about minimum height and weight. The rules are enforced for the protection of society and are proper. A dwarf would not meet the requirements of the service nor would he/she be taken seriously in a legal confrontation. Think about it, The risk to the small person would be so much greater. Not that they could not do the job, but that they would be so much more at risk because of size. |

No, dwarfs can't be cops because they are physically limited, and being physically incapable of carrying out the job description is a perfectly acceptable reason to deny employment. That is no more discrimination then not hiring a person too short to reach the top shelf to work in a warehouse. It's unfortunate, but there are other jobs in the law enforcement field that dwarfs or little people are able to do. |

There is no longer a height requirement for police and firemen. That was thrown out years ago. All a dwarf needs to do is complain enough and get others to complain in support. Then they will lower the standards, just like they did when women started to want these jobs. Female cops are not the best pick of applicants. They have to be hired. |

There A Certain Requirements To Be A Police Officer. Height Is Usually One, Some Use The Scale Of What Your Weight Is In Proportion To Your Height. Id Imagine If Enough Little People Got Together Or Just One With A Great Lawyer Headway Could Be Made As Far As Changing That. WeeMan Did Aight In That Reality Show That Lasted About 20 Minutes. |

For safety reasons, Police Officers and Firemen are required to be a certain size or higher, They also can't be obese. And they have to obtain a certain level of fitness. Being too short or to large may hamper your abilities as a police officer.
Policies can vary from province to province and from state to state.
But there may still be jobs inside the police force that a dwarf is capable of doing. My advice is to call write or stop in and ask the officer on duty at your local police station. You may be qualified to work the switchboard, or something else.
Please understand it's for the protection of the individual. A dwarf uniformed Police man would be putting himself in a greater degree of danger than an average size police officer. |

It would depend on how compitent he/she would be. Obviously he would have a lot of problems measuring up to physical aggressiveness from criminals. It would next to impossible for him to do an adequate job.
Of course, there would be certain tasks that he possibly could perform. He could sit at a desk and do the paperwork, or perhaps use his mental abilities to solve crimes. He could be hired to do that. However, overall, the fact that it would be nearly impossible for him to even qualify as a police officer does not make it discrimination. He just doesn't measure up. |

Not really, there are physical requirements for getting on the force for a reason. You need to be a certain height because you will be chasing suspects, which normally are average height, and being small, you won't be able to keep up. You need to be able to tackle and subdue large individuals, which can easily toss you away or beat you to a pulp if you are too small. Also, driving a regular police car, safely, at high speeds. Not to be mean, but those cars are rather big, and they can't modify them to accommodate size. It's hard, and it would anger me also, but it's not safe for you to become an officer, and it's not safe for the people you are trying to protect. It is physically extremely taxing for a normal individual, so it would be nearly impossible for a dwarf. |

Sorry but a dwarf has as many problems as a fat guy.
Will you elect some fat guy that can't move as fast as a medium guy to be your cop?
Maybe not . So unless this particular dwarf has unlimitited ablities I do not think he or she will work out.
Of course there are other jobs for big people and little people but I think they would call that favorstisim..
Best of luck to all of you that cant cut all jobs. I am too short to be allot of things but so far I have managed. |

ur correct. the definition of discrimination is not giving the same benefits to someone based on trivial things. being a dwarf doesnt mean you cant do the job just as good as a normal sized person. if the dwarf cant complete the police academy, then thats a different story. but if the dwarf successfully completes the academy like everyone else, then there is no legitimate job-related reason to not hire him or her. |

Yes it would be. If a dwarf is able to pass all the training and classes, then why not? I could see it being a safety issue as a small person, but they could have a lawsuit on their hands if not at least offered the job if the person passed everything. |
