The DC police watched as the protesters trespassed but they did nothing because they do not have jurisdiction. If the protest had gotten more out of hand and turned violent or if they decided to burn the house down, would the DC police officers have been obligated to intervene?

They didn't just watch. They escorted the SEIU buses to the banker's house in Maryland. They knew what was going to happen. They aided and abetted the criminals and should be charged for their participation. Then they lied, claimed they only escorted the buses to the DC line. |

Why do you have to apply for a permit to protest on public property, but 500+ people can show up to someones private property and protest and the police won't do anything. |

I don't know where this happened but a DC police officer has jurisdiction anywhere in the District of Columbia. There are other departments that have primary patrol responsibility for places like the Capitol, Supreme Court, Zoo, etc, but the DC police can make an arrest anywhere in the city. |

yeah. if protestors start doing something illegal such as arson like you mentioned the police would have had to intervene, if they were just protesting the police would definitely not been legally allowed to stop them seeing as everyone has the right to free speech |
