In most states, moving violations are an infraction and must be witnessed by an officer for a citation to be enforced.
So if you decide to set up your own 'traffic cam' to catch motorists violating various traffic laws, you will be disappointed.
If you happen to catch a more serious crime on film - a misdemeanor or felony hit-and-run, for instance - in that case, yes, your film could be used as evidence. |

In my state, you would have to be the one to file the affidavit for reckless driving or what ever the case may be. We can not issue a citation for something that we did not witness. Even though we can watch the tape it is not the same as witnessing the crime our self. If you do file the affidavit, you will have to go to court. |
