DO NOT take Juno's advice to talk to the person directly. Feeding someone's obsession only makes the obsession stronger.

You need to contact authorities, who will advise you on how to go about protecting yourself (such as blocking your number, or getting a restraining order).

The people who ignore the warning signs are the people we read about (afterwards) in the paper's obituaries, and we all wonder, "Why didn't she get help?"

GET HELP - but leave the crazy person alone.

Block the offending number. Simple.

Whether the cops would call it harassment would depend on the context of what your 'unable to grasp reality' ex actually says.
If it's just I love you and I want you back, they won't be interested.
If it's I love you and if I can't have you no one else will, they might well take a bit more interest.

And if he's violent, well done on dumping him.

It makes no difference whether I consider this to be harassment or not - but the law would.
The Prevention of Harassment Act has a definition of harassment within it - you'll see from the web-link below that this sort of activity false fairly and squarely within the category (see s.2).
This is exactly the sort of low-level harassment the Act was intended to stop.

You can get an injunction to prevent re-occurrence, attached to a power of arrest if the injunction is breached. You need a solicitor to pursue the matter, though.

No you are not. My daughter had a similar problem and it went on for almost a year before a Restraint Order was obtained

your not giving much info. If you have not told this person to leave you alone it is not harassment. you dont say what the messages say. You can always change your number if it actually worries you.

Absolutely keep the messages log the new ones and keep a diary of contacts and content.
Report this as soon as possible the great danger is that if frustrated and getting no reaction this could escalate.
Good luck!

.. .this can't be good
Keep all your proof. Print your text messages if possible. Save them on your phone if not. Save the tape from the answering machine. Save the caller ID box with all the missed calls.

If this person hurts you, you will not be believed by the police unless you keep this proof. You will be victimized again and again. If you report it, make the officer give you a copy of the report and his name and badge number. Tell him to put on the report you want copies of any additional reports regarding the matter.

Contact the Police right away and keep any evidence. Also contact the phone companies as they will help you. Good luck.

I don't really get your point, if you don't want this person contacting you, then report them simple.

indiansbearsandangels
Yes, I would bring all your proof to the police and they can contact the person. Tell them not to contact you anymore, and if they do - bring the proof once again to the police and then the person will get a ticket. Every time following continue to report it. Trust me, they will not like getting all these tickets and it will stop.

If it doesn't - go and file a restraining order.

goonern014
yea youll prob make things worse he odviously has probs obsessive id imagine , make sure u dont reply to any of his messages and dont go near the dude soon enough he'll get the message , reporting the fella will only fuel his obsession unless u think hes gonna kill ya then id say get him locked up .

You can have the number blocked so that they can not call your phone. Call your phone company and ask them about that, especially so you have a record of communication of this event in case you need it in the future. Be sure to get the name and extension of the representative who helps you. If the harassment continues in other ways and you know who it is, get an ex parte restraining order that will ensure the person is legally prohibited from contacting you.

Yes this is definitely harassment. Log all the calls. The phone company will only have a record of them if you answer the calls so just answer and then disconnect immediately. DO NOT SPEAK TO THIS PERSON. Take your phone to a police station and report the harassment. They will need proof of the text messages and will copy them from your phone or take a polaroid picture of them. As for the voice messages, they are time sensitive if they are on your mobile phone so you must get them recorded asap, preferably at the police station. Make a record of all evidence and it will be taken seriously.

Call the police. If it is not actual "harassment", it is certainly "menacing". They can contact the individual and make it very clear that you'd like no further contact. They'll also instruct you as to how to put a tracer on your phone for a short time. You press a series of keys after each phone call, and they do the rest.
