Would you let prisoners do normal jobs so they would have money when released?

What about the victims? A word hardly ever used by criminals, how do you think they feel about you out swanning around getting paid for your crimes. Do the crime Do the time!

criminals are parasite vermin. they should be put to work in chain gangs cleaning dog faeces, graffitti, litter etc. they should be sent down the sewers to clean & maintain the drains. all the nasty filthy jobs decent folk shouldn't have to do. any money they "earned" should, to the last penny! go to compensating their victims. refusal to work should be punishable by loss of food entitlment. no work, no eat. of course, the worst offenders would not have the opportunity to repay victims/society as they'd be hanging from trees feeding rats & crows.

Sure. Who wouldn't rather return to prison each night rather than their own uncomfortable bed?

There used to be road gangs and work farms where prisoners worked under armed guard supervision, but a lot of working people were put out of work by that. Why should a working man be denied a job because he DIDN'T do anything wrong, all to allow a prisoner to make money as a special privilege?

Some do, but workmates soon find out and they don't like it. Prisoners are their to serve their punishment, so I don't think that they should. If you can't do the time don't do the crime.

I feel some crimes returning back to the cells at 6.00pm till 7.30AM and all weekends say drunks binge drinkers.but while earning, prison board and lodgings payment required,same as charges by Youth Hostels so folk couldnt say it was too much

No I feel that they should 'do their time' until their release date.

Some states give prisoners jobs within the prison itself so they can make restitution if it was ordered by the judge or jury.You also need to remember that prison isnt supposed to be nice and normal.It is designed to make you not want to go back.When you get released from prison,depending on what you did to get put there,your parole Officer will have employment lists.These are companies willing to hire convicted felons.The owners work closely with the PO to ensure you are working when you say you are and not taking drugs and making your appointments with your PO.

And you don't think the admin, searches and extra staff would cancel out the cost of them being there during the 9-5 then? They are not there to 'save up' if they had any work ethic and thought for the future for themselves and their families, perhaps they wouldn't be there in the 1st place!

They can get jobs inside the prison to earn money. I would not want them out during the day - that is more like work release. Perhaps missing the people they care about would discourage them from doing something to be sent back once they get out.

IN IRELAND THE HAVE A PRISON TRAINING UNIT WHERE THEY LET PRISONERS WHO HAVE PROVED THEMSELVES GO OUT INTO THE ORDINARY WORK FORCE DURING THE DAY BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 7AM TILL 5AM AND THEN RETURN BACK TO THE TRAINING UNIT FOR THEIR DETENTION.

Some get work release depending on their crimes. Probably should be more though.

That's true, however, some people not feel 'safe' at work if there were prisoners that worked with them.

I am not saying that I would feel that way because I wouldn't...but you cannot deny that other poeple would.
