Hello Ivana. I just have to add my two cents into this question here.
I am a Corrections Officer in a max prison for the last 19 years now. One of my favorite statements that I make to inmates and new Officers alike is "How can you tell an inmate is lying?" "His lips are moving".
Yes, I am being facetious, but not by much. The mind set of the criminal element is that they think that they can tell anything at all and get whatever they want. 90% of my listening skills is devoted to trying to determine a legitimate statement from a lie.
So, yes, convicts will lie to any extreme possible to avoid a prison sentence.
PS....I have over 2,000 inmates in my prison and if you ask each and every one, they will all tell you that they are completely innocent. It was someone else who happens to look like them, have matching fingerprints and matching DNA......BUT IT ISNT THEM.
Sorry for the jail house humor, but after a few years, you develop it to keep your sanity after you go home from work.
Best of luck and I hope this is useful to you |

I didn't lie, I told the court what I did...
And quite rightly, got 9 months... I was the only guilty man in the prison!! |

I think fear would make you lie even if you regret it after, personally, if I am innocent, I will say it out loud, and if I am not, I know I am not a good liar so I might as well say the truth. |

Well I did........................................ was charged - and three years in the prison system.
Not a good idea ---------------------but if your willing to take that kind of risk, you should be ready for the consequences. |

.No I wouldn't lie on oath, but what I would do if I thought that I was going to be railroaded into prison when I was not guilty I would say under my breath "I do not" and then outloud the words "swear to tell the truth", I try to abide by all the rules but sometimes the people who supposed to abide by the rules do not, so for a time I abide by their rules and don't tell the whole truth. |

if people lie to get one . |

No. If they found out you'd be charged with perjury and add time to your sentence. Stupid question... |

Judges are well trained to suspect lying, it is not easy to fool a judge with telling a lie. The term is perjury; lie in testimony and statements. Get caught and you get in deep trouble with the law and courts. They do follow up on what you say to clarify if what you say is true or not. |
