Would your buy a POLICE OFFICER lunch?
Find answers to your legal question.

Would your buy a POLICE OFFICER lunch?

Once when my dauther and I were in a drive-thru, I looked in my rearview mirror and saw a cop car. When I got to the window, I paid for my order and also for the police officer behind me. As we left, I saw the drive-thru worker pointing us out as we drove away. No words. Just a kind gesture for those who lay their lives down for us.

They have one of the most thankless jobs in America!!

Steve
You know I would have never thought to do that but what a great gesture it was.

If I'm ever in the drive thru and see a police car behind me, I'm buying them lunch - because of you.

I think that was a very kind and thoughtfull thing for you to do. I know I used to work at Western Bagel when i was younger and when cops buy food you have to give them ANYTHIGN they want for free, it was a directive from the owner. The cops are always curtiouse and take the amount they would have paid for their meal and put it in the tip cup. Its society at its best.

You are a kind person!! And I totally agree that they have a very hard job to do.

On behalf of all law enforcement officers....thank you! You are very kind!

Most officers would most likely not accept an offer of this nature as it is sometimes considered a "gratuity" that is not necessary.

I've always suggested that if you are appreciative of an officer or their performance, a kind letter to the department head is always welcome! Additionally, I've suggested that citizens write letters to their community and legislative leaders to express the desire for more officers and better wages.

Most officers do their best to portray the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and professionalism.

Occasionally you run up on an individual like the first respondant in this particular blog who made such a vile comment. This is an example of the problems addressed in society every day.

Suffice it to say...we have poor representation in ALL walks of life but in our profession...we do our best!

Thank you again and best wishes!

What a great thing to do, and with your daughter in the car too. I have been helped out by the police on a few occasions, and my husband has to deal with them a lot at his job, and I have nothing but respect for officers. I am trying to teach my son to respect and be courteous to the police at all times (especially when you've been busted....)

It is people like you that make the world a great place to live. Simple kind gestures like that make people feel good, especially police because they are part of the community and even though they give out tickets and arrest people, they are still the ones who protect us and the children.
I just graduated from a law enforcement academy and working hard to become a cop. If someone bought me lunch, I would feel welcome and appreciated in the community.
I wish there were more like you around!
I cant believe people would say things like "only if I could piss on it first". They obviously dont appreciate and understand the importance of law enforcement.

THANK YOU!

?
I buy lunch for them all the time at work.

auditor4u2007
I used to do it all the time, especially when I was a deputy sheriff. I'd buy my partners lunch, when he wasn't buying mine.

Sure - and I'm not American.

Although once in a while I pay for the meal of the person behind me anyway, irrelevant of whether they're a police officer or not.

TWBensgirl
Yes, that was a very kind and sweet gesture from someone who has an appreciation of what a hard job it is to be a police officer, or any public safety official.

It's tough to be in a position where people do not always see you as an ally, but sometimes as an enemy. For some, a cop car is a welcome sight on the roadways and in our neighborhoods. For others, a cop car means someone's getting in trouble. And for a few rare cases, the sight of law enforcement causes more problems than it solves.

Police officers have it tough - it is a really difficult and competitive field to get into, you get lousy pay for putting your life on the line everyday, you have to put up with all the stupid Cops and Donuts jokes, and then the general public whines and complains about their taxes when they hear about officers taking a detail to make up some extra money. When tragedies such as 9-11 and the Virginia Tech massacre happen, I wish I could pay more towards my city and state law enforcement agencies for the added security, safety, and violence prevention programs...

Good for you for being an appreciative citizen.

What a wonderful thing to do.

We aren't perfect. We come from the same society as everyone else and we are just as subject to the same foibles as everyone else. We try harder than some, and it sounds like you recognize this.

Thank you. I'm certain you touched that officer's heart in a way you can never imagine.

Nope.... I guess except for the one time I got arrested for walking(not driving) home because I was drunk and they arrested me 1 block from my house and the cop took over $200 from me.... cops are not always a bad thing, but I do think cops are corrupt and continue to be that way because they can... I am friends with a few cops and when I am with them it is all good, but to people they don't know, they act just the same way as all the other cops

kaluah96
ha ha i'm with ME on this one. I hate NC cops. and if they didn't harass folks they wouldn't have a thankless job. I've never been in jail but i have been harassed drug out of my car hand cuffed searched and then each time let go. I hope they choke on whatever sandwich i give them.

Where I live (Bay Area, CA), most cops make 6-figures so no, I would not buy them anything. People are always kissing their bootie anyhow. They get free meals and discounts from local places.

I would rather buy lunch (or dinner) for someone in the military- now they are doing much more for us than the police.

gtamayo1
heck no that was the guy who just arrested me for peeing on the sidewalk,
He probably get discounts anyway,
I like cops, but just not rookies, they think they are above the law and mess with people

Bottom Contributor
Only if i could piss in it before i gave it to him.

martin
never, they dont do anything for our country -- they are glorfied traffic admins who could not cut it in the private sector or federal government

mccain
actually i have and do so twice a year. i order pizza and have it delivered to station so all the officers can enjoy it. i am always careful to pay cash and tip the driver then(before delivery). this keeps it anomynous. the military is a good idea also, but i figure a lot of officers were in the military beforehand anyway. they both deserve it. doing it the way i do, they can't refuse as tehy might in person because of gratuity problems.
