But what is the answer? Parents need to be more responsible, schools need to be able to punish kids when they do wrong, police need to be able to do their job.
Not all teenagers in groups are gangs, most just hanging around, but those who go looking for trouble to impress their mates are a problem. |

Dopey, ignorant judges and politicians are the cause of it. They haven't got a clue about real life. We should send them out onto the estates at night dressed in their stiff suits and alone. Then let's see if they will tackle the problem after that! (That's if they come out alive!). |

I totally agree that discipline,or lack of is the cause of the yob culture today. There is far too much emphasis on the rights of children today.I dont believe in child "abuse"but as usual, the do gooders have gone OTT with how much parents and schools and our own POLICE are allowed to do.
We are humans, but we are an animal,so as in a puppy,if you dont discipline it,and teach it,it will "sh**" and misbehave as it wishes.I know that there will be more killings etc,and I feel that a vigilante style correction will probably evolve,as more people get p***ed off with the lack of control. |

I agree. Decent honest people killed for asking kids to keep the noise down.
The decline of these people starts at home. Parents should take more responsibility. The police have no respect whatsover off these kids. Most have been to court numerous times and are fully aware that all they get is a slap on the wrist.
We are way too soft and need to get tougher, much tougher. |

Sign up for the two fairly new petitions on the Downing Sreet website about bringing back the birch and the stocks. Or you tell us how we can take a stand apart from complaining to each other. |

It's time for some respectable citizens to don balaclavas and go out with baseball bats/brake sticks, and administer some discipline.
Enough is enough. |

Yes you are correct but if the Tories ever get back in then Cameron has the answer, these people are just lacking in love and affection, they need to be hugged! |

A Very good question! A sign of the last days of the dispensation in which we are living as the bible states what will happen and it coming true to pass. Children becoming abusive not regarding parents, weather calamities in floods fires and earthquakes, wars and rumors of war!
Just because you are an atheist doesn't mean it won't happen! its happening Now! [read your bible] |

We have often heard ex-pats from the UK complain of this. They describe it as excessive tolerance for hooliganism. Apparently, this was particularly pronounced during the Thatcher years of unprecedented unemployment. People were forced from farms and mines from the country to the city, where they had no history and no stake. If people have no stake in a culture and no hope of ever obtaining entry, we feel we have nothing to lose. And think of language in the UK - the posh accent that still says success a hundred years after Shaw's Pygmalian versus the yobbo Eastender, who can never hope for promotion. From over here in Canada, it looks from your excellent comedies (see Roll & Shuffle Unusual Bets http://pokerpulse.com/news/viewtopic.php?p=2896#2896) that you're getting over all that class system nonsense and enjoying something of an industrial renaissance. Even UK magazines seem to be over the ancient Joan of Arc dread/envy of everything French. If it's truly as you say, however, I can only guess that access to education is still barring entry to too many Brtions. That and the probability that the great humorist P.G. Wodehouse has not been discovered by contemporary youth. Enlighten them! Start here:

Funny how poor old Maggie gets the blame for everything wrong in this country to-day. What has New Labour been doing for the past ten years?. Certainly not driving crime from the streets.
'Foghorn' I did you an injustice I thought after reading your epistle you were a just another socialist not a social scientist. |
