I walked through that life and can tell you a bit
Yeah street gangs are bad, but so are many people living in the cities. Sometime you may not feel safe in the city, there is plenty of crimes, but there are good people that live the gang life. Some gangs have been started as protection to neighborhoods, and were meant to be a good thing but the violence still took over. people are pack animals and will do different things when in a group then when they are alone.
A good movie for you to watch is Redemption staring jamie fox.
Gangs force people into gangs as well as the cops, they like to push people around when they are alone but in numbers they back off a bit.
As a kid I was raised in the worst neighborhood in my state. I was beaten up for years just cause im white, but after a while you get known and accepted. You are brought into a tight group of people who become like family. They tell you they got your back, and most do, but the thing they don't say is you have to have my back. If you fail another member you will get beat by all. It is just a way of making you man up, and making you tougher. But that life takes you into so much pain and you feel there is no hope or escape. You get madder and sadder everyday until either you go to jail or die or make a dash for it. I am now living in hawaii and am a clean and sober man, and a nice member of the community. I guess I am trying to make up for time lost, but my personal evolution continues. |
