No. Probation is a suspended jail sentence. You report to a probation officer and if you abide by the rules. Then once the time is up your free, but if you violate it you could have to go to jail. Parole is what people released from prison are on. Pretty much they same thing as probation but they have to go serve their remaining prison sentence if they screw up. |

No. Probation is a legal tool used by the courts to not have to watch an offender so closely. The Court puts you on "probation", usually meaning that you have done a crime, but it is not serious enough for you to not be allowed to participate in society- as long as you do not do it again! PAROLE is when you have been arrested, jailed, and released- on YOUR WORD that you will not offend again. Parole has a historical basis; when you gave someone your, "parole", it meant that YOU were promising that whatever you did, you would not do anymore, in exchange for being released from supervision (jail!). |
