why do some cops wear bulletproof vests outside their uniform?

is it to look bad *** or is their a reason? the officer who wears it on the outside is also a k9 officer, if that matters.

Hank gave you the correct answer. I've seen vests designed to be worn on the inside (the majority of them) and plenty of vests designed to be worn on the outside. The biggest reason I know for wearing it on the outside is for officers who work in hot climates - they can take it off when safe to do so (in the office, etc) and get it back on much quicker than if it was worn inside the shirt. A vest worn on the outside also allows for equipment to be carried on the vest itself and not on the belt...which is easier on the hips.

It simply makes it easier to take off and put on without having to take half their uniform off. There are some departments that have switched to a vest carrier that is designed like a uniform shirt that is always worn on the outside.

When your trying to stop a bullit, I don't think it matters where you wear it. You just hope it works.

mickeyso is correct, but in addition, the resistance to penetration is degraded by perspiration over time. Wearing it on the outside helps to protect against this degradation.

The vest does not always go on the outside...the vest is worn on the inside of your uniform. Unless you are on a specific detail which requires you to wear a certain type of bullet proof vest on the outside of your uniform.
