Aw David, did you not realise that this question would get all the 'Anti Smokers' on here...........?
And, nobody forces smokers to smoke, but noone forces the rest of you to drive and I bet you all winge about the price of petrol and car tax. Likewise drinking, watching TV and everything else that is taxed. And as for taking up hospital beds, how many of you drink, take drugs or are obese all of which ties up NHS beds!!!!!!!!!!!
Wind your necks in for Gods sake! |

Yep, In an effort to make you quit the government likes to place heavy taxes. Could be a good reason to quit |

Asking such a question will result in non-smokers showing no sympathy towards smokers and your question does not appear to relate to this thought. Smoking cigarettes can be likened to setting fire to money. If you don't want to pay more tax, give up smoking - resulting in more money and improved health. Probably not what you want to hear, but fact. |

If smokes are only 11p in the UK, I'm moving there next week.... |

I am stunned by the amount of self-righteous, holier-than-thou answerers on this question. YES WE KNOW its killing us, but its very, very addictive and very, very difficult to stop!!! Did you ever think of that?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? |

Hey the government drug dealers have you hooked now they are just reeling you in!
Ignore all the other bitter comments from ex-smokers or do-good-ers. It's your life do what you want. I just recently gave up smoking because i wanted to and not for any health, money reasons. I recommend going to rolling tobacco though it's much cheaper. |
|

 |
well it gives you another reason not to smoke, and it will cost another 11p to kill yourself...
the nhs have to invest millions of pounds for smokers like you that have lung problems, cancer etc etc....
but the nicotine patches that help you to kick the habit of smoking, are cheap, so they encourage people to quit...
I don't think you are being ripped off, but they are trying to help you in order to quit..
if you quit now, you will have much of a longer life & a healthier life than you are having now..
Quit or pay the price
by the tax & cost or your life...
it depends on you now... |

There are millions of ciggies smuggled into the country every week,so why would you pay tax to this thieving government?Btw.More people die from the effects of car pollution than ciggies,so,why don't we ban cars?Drivers have no moral right to criticize smokers.I smoke, don't drink,or own a car, although i can afford to.The health fascists can't leave people to live their own lives, you are either too fat,too thin, drink too much, smoke, etc.Well,f**k 'em all,i will do as i please. |

These anti smokers make me laugh so much *siiigh*.
I'd like to know what the government do with the money they earn off of our smoking. |

In an ideal world they should be banned just like any other dangerous substances. |

Hmmmm...Here in the UK a packet of 20 is close to $10..yep we are complaining because......!!!
Anyway, all those who condemn smokers..will you be the first to complain about the cost of petrol or diesel...hahaha..serves you right..
I don't own or drive a car..so I don't care. |

I live in Spain where they cost between 1.50 & 2.00 GBP per pack depending on the brand. The UK government know that smokers are now "personas non grata" and that the majority of people don't care how much smokers pay to maintain their habit, so they sock it to you. There is too much money to be made so easily that they will never ban it even though through their greed they tacitly condone smoking on the one hand and then threaten witholding treatment on the NHS for smoking related diseases on the other. Pure hypocrasy. |

YES!!
totally effin ripped off as per usual.
Smokers are an easy lay on budget day (what my grandad used to say)
<<also sticks two fingers up at all the non-smoker evangelists out there (putting the FUN into fundamentalists) |

i think it should be more..!! |

You question isn't very clear, I take it you were talking about the recent budget, its about 5.20 pounds for a pack of twenty!
If the government was really concerned about the health of smokers and drinkers they should ban alcohol and smoking completely, but of course that will never happen as they make too much money off of us!!!
People say we're taking up hospital beds, well so does obesity, so should we tax people who are fat and stuff there faces with junk food all day aswell as smokers and drinkers? |
|

Captain Sarcasm

Absolutely. Register your protest by stopping smoking and reducing the taxes you pay to the Government. |

smokes can always be bought on the cheap. who is going to pay the billions of pounds in tax when everyone stops buying them from the shops and the tax has to be found somewhere else |

smoking should be an illegal drug because it kills!!! its the worst drug in the world in my opinion because it kills not only you but harms everyone around you.
i watched my grandfather suffer from cancer that started in his lungs and spread all the way through his body, because he smoked so much. he finally passed away to be at peace at the weekend.
do you really want your life to be like that!!!!
give up smoking and stopped killing yourself and others around you!
and yes i was a smoker myself until recently, i saw what it was doing to me and everyone around me. i am watching so many people around me suffer and thats the hardest part of it for me, dont get me wrong there are times when i would just love to light up but i cant and the fear of being in that much pain is what is stopping me! |

You are ripping yourself off from better health. |

Toria

No, though I do think small businesses and car drivers are being ripped off |

As some has said, it´s the governments way to entice people to stop smoking.
You might feel ripped off, but at the end of the day it´s you who puts his hand in his pocket. But when people like you and i become ill after smoking these death sticks then it´s other peoples pockets which suffer.
I am not of the anti smoking brigade, being a smoker myself, but i totally understand where they are coming from so i try to be as considerate as possible.
All these restrictions are great for the non-smokers and can help the smoker also.
Maybe one day smoking will become such a pain in the rear(besides the lungs, throat, liver etc) that abstinence becomes wholesale. |

Yes, I think we are. We're being ripped off of numerous years, that we could have been spent with our loved ones. Instead, we choose to shorten our lives ... by inhaling toxic smoke into our lungs, on a daily basis. We're a sorry bunch, we are. :( |
|

toutch my food feel my fork
 |
not rally its only 11p i bought a choco bar worth more than that |
|

Ricecakes

The price rise is in line with inflation.
As for the question 'are smokers being ripped off'...
...Lemme think - £6 a packet to light a piece of filled paper that gives you a range of life threatening conditions.
I think they are being ripped off! It's hard to see the value for money there. |
|

Mark J
 |
Nope, keep it coming. I hope it does not encourage people to give up, we need to keep this revenue stream for the government just so they don't up fuel duty any more!! |
|

Blitzkrieg

here its $10 or more and we get feral pictures as well and cant smoke in public or where food is served
im moving to uk |
|

Conkys Mummy
 |
i think it should be more, smokers take up our hospital beds! cant wait till the ban in public places why should we breathe in all the smoke, if we wanted to kill ourselves we would smoke!
Oh well if you choose to smoke... you have to pay the prices, money and death! |
|

sickskillz883

ok here in the Us a pack of stogs cost like 4 dollars , and your complaining becuz???? |
|

?

you pay with a precentage of your life and gamble on lung cancer and heart disease.
11p is peanuts compared to that |
