A dear friend of mine just admitted to molesting a child to me...?

I am shocked... this person has been a friend of mine since i was in grade school... I told this friend the only way I could remain a friend is to go to the police and take responsibility for the action. This person has otherwise been a good person, no criminal record and is largely responsible for my personal success. If it weren't for this friend I would not be where I am today.... probably in jail. So I guess what I am asking is what is the best possible way for my friend to admit this, get the help needed and not be crucified to the wall. I understand there will be punishment involved but how can it be minimized? Thank you for reading...

If this incident of molestation has not been reported to the police, then I suggest your friend contact a lawyer and the lawyer contact the police. If it has, then your friend still needs to contact a lawyer, asap. The more cooperative your friend is with the police, the better off their situation will be. Don't presume that what your friend has told you or what you know of the situation is all of the story. There are times and places when it is a good and noble thing to stand by a friend, I pity you because this may not be one of them.

I don't think being your friend and "otherwise a good person" is sufficient reason to NOT crucify a child molester

You need to contact your local authorities and tell him what he told you..so no other child get molested..child molestation is out of control and damaging children on a daily basis, and can destroy a child's life..report this person now

This guy is a sicko. He deserves to be in prison for the rest of his life, where he can be molested and beaten. That's just not justifiable. Why would you still be his friend? He molested a kid. He hurt an innocent child. You just can't forgive that. And if you can, there's something wrong with you. If I were you, I would have broken both his legs.

I understand that you feel like you owe your friend but what he did is horrible and in the law system, unless he's rich, he's going to get a severe punishment. The best thing you can do is make sure it doesn't happen again.

What a confession to load on someone who's supposed to be a friend! Whether he is willing to do the right thing or not, you must! These people don't change and they ruin lives. Don't be a party to his sickness. If he refuses to go to the police, then you must. If you don't, you will share in the responsibility of any future molesting he does and how about the child or children already molested that need counseling? You really KNOW what you should do. Will you have the integrity to do it though? I hope so.
