Hi guys, I am a bouncer and the gentleman who hired me is holding out on my checks and I want to know what I may do to retrieve my money. I have the business's address and I want to know if its the better business bureau I contact or something else... Much thanks!

Fair Labor and Standards Act of the Federal governement says that he has to pay you. Your state probably has laws the are even more specific. Do a google search for "minimum wage (state's name)" and you will probably get a contact or a means of contacting the state's labor board.
You may also just go to the local court and sue. This is usually much faster, but you may have to pay to file (though you may also defer payment). Your boss will likely have to pay for the filing fee if found responsible. There is literally no defense against paying your employees for hours worked. Even if you were caught stealing, he can't withhold money, only fire/arrest/sue you.
There are some pretty stiff penalties for knowingly refusing to pay your employees. |

Start with your state's employment division. The Better Business Bureau will be of no help to you in this matter. |

Have you spoken to the owner of the club? or his representative? It is typical for employers to with hold up to two weeks pay before you get your first check. Before you go looking for legal counsel from anyone, speak to people of authority where you are working, if you get no satisfactory answer, advise them that you will be seeking legal advice and then see if the story changes. |

Unless you signed a legal contract, there is no law that states your employer has to pay you anything. Your recourse is to quit.
You also have the option to file suit in small claims court. |
