Someone on another website said, "I am against the concept of being able to own something a person does not use, this is just theft from everyone else that would use it."
That basically sums it up in a nutshell. When anarchists talk about "property", they're not referring to the shirt you are wearing. Proudhon drew a distinction between a possession and "property". The shirt you wear, the car you drive, the home you live in, the computer / hammer / sickle you use to do your job - these are all things in your possession, but they are not necessarily your "property".
Your car may be the "property" of the leasing company. Your home may be the "property" of the landlord or bank until you pay off the mortgage. The computer / hammer / sickle may be the "property" of the boss / shareholder.
All these claims to "property" are used to take things from you, in the form of rent, interest, or exploitation. Thus this kind of property is used as justification for theft. |

One reason is historical: the primary concentrations of wealth, including feudal land claims in the 19th century, and various other fortunes in the 20th/21st, are stolen, or are derived from stolen wealth, from government favors, etc.
Another reason is that property, as it exists, is used to extract income from the labor of others. Proudhon defends entepreneurial profit (in his discussions of commerce in his *General Idea of the Revolution*) but he harshly criticizes rent (derived from land monopoly, and ultimately from feudalism), interest (derived from state favors to certain banks and state restrictions on working-class organization), and copyright. |

By that quote we mean private property. This is because private property is inherently linked with the oppression of Capitalism and the state. |

Property in terms of ownership would be sanctioned officially by a form of government....and anarchists are against all forms of government.
They prefer self government....maximum freedom. |
