Accused of stealing $60 worth of gas...what the worse that can happen?

What other evidence do they have? Just going on the word of your "boyfriend" (not much of a boyfriend if he snitches on you, is he?) is probably not enough. But if they do have other evidence, and this is a first time offense, you probably will have to pay for the gas, pay a fine, have your hand slapped, and told not to do it again.

But, if you have a record already, it could be worse.

Sounds like a Class B Misdemeanor. I think (I' m no lawyer) that it can be punished by a fine and up to 60 days jail time. What the hell were you doing? Did you not see those cameras? Just pay for your gas, thief...

Petty larceny could get you jail time, in WV if you steal gas they suspend your license, and jail time is possible.

Why did boyfriend call police? Who told him this? was he witness to this act? did you do it? Most gas stations have cameras so if you did this it is on tape, plus most time they call police with plate number.
You need a good lawyer. If convicted you will lose license, pay a fine and possibly do jail time...........Of course they rather prosecute you...they can hold you up as example...even use name and picture in ads at that place. It is all public record now, anyone can find info.....You have a problem....stealing is wrong and gas stations watch for these types of crimes......why owuld you do something so foolish.....the worst, license loss, jail time, fine, hard to get a job because you have record as theif, everyone find out when publish in paper, and they put your picture on wall as someone they caught.......hope that $60 gas was worth it....

Not quite sure I understand what happened...I mean, why would your bf do that? Did you steal it? Was it an accident? Makes no sense. My bf used my car once and accidentally drove off (after he also went inside and paid for a drink, but forgot the gas). A cop came to my house and told me to just go pay for the gas, so I did and nothing happened. But it was a little more obvious that it was an accident in our case. Either way, I don't think it will be that big of a deal. I mean, $60? come on. You'll probably just get a fine. Assuming it is your first offense and you don't have any other priors.I hope to god they aren't wasting our tax dollars on such things. Stress that it was a mistake..ie you forgot to pay.

Youll lose your driving licence, it will either be suspended or wiped off.

If wiped off you will have to retake your test.

A fine will be in order.

Jail time wont really happen but if you did steal the gas then that was kind of stupid.

If you are a thief, then you deserve to be prosecuted - end of story.
I doubt prison would be worthwhile , unless you are a repeat offender, however, you only mentioned the word "accused" which means one of two things.
1. You have trouble admitting to dishonesty.
2. You didn't do it, and there is no proof to state otherwise.

The gas could be tainted with Strontium 131 releasing a deadly cloud of radiation into the atmosphere. Radiation detectors at the local nuke plant would go off and send red alerts to SAC. An error in communications would result in GWB launching ICBMs at Russia and China, they retaliate and all life on Earth is destroyed. I can't think of much worse.

How the hell do you steal $60 of gas, fill me in on some tips....But anyway, the worse that could happen for stealing almost 16 gallons of gas is just get fined...court and all that. Hope you don't though, get a moderate lawyer and you'll be fine.
