After i downloaded a movie my internet got suspended so i want to know if it is legal or illegal?

That depends. If you're paying for the movie... like downloading it through Netflix or some other service where you pay to download the movie, it's probably legal.

If you're downloading it for free, via a program like Limewire, Bear Share or some other peer-to-peer program, then it would be illegal.

However, your internet may not have been suspended for downloading the movie; but rather because movie files are pretty huge. If you're on a college campus, chances are pretty good the campus has a program that suspended your access for using up a large amount of bandwidth in a short span of time. In most cases, these things are automated and the suspension is lifted a short time later. Life goes on.

However, it's possible the equipment could also keep a log of what causes people to be suspended. If someone at the campus IT department actually reviews those logs (either at random or because you called to complain about your connection being suspended), then you could be in trouble. On top of the fact downloading movies for free is illegal to begin with, most colleges have their own policies which allow them to punish you ... like cutting off your service altogether or even suspending you or expelling you from school.

If you're not on a college campus... it's possible your ISP throttled your account temporarily because of mega-use of bandwith, but very unlikely they'll actually check through the logs to see what caused it. Most ISPs aren't going to take action that could wind up souring their relationship with a paying customer. They'll leave it up to the record or movie companies to come after you.

Odds are, that if you didn't pay for it, or for a subscription to the Website, it was an illegal download.

Did you read the end user agreement? I used to work for a .com company. People would call in and complain we were doing illegal things but they hadn't read everything. They would often say are you really going to hold me to that. What they didn't take into account was the fact that they were okay with holding us to it.

The ISP is well within it's rights to suspend your service.
The ISP will mostly likely investigate the incident if requested by a Film board or industry and this could in turn mean, if you used P2P or other illegal methods of acquiring, that you will end up in front of a jury and judge.

However it is illegal to download movies from almost everywhere on the internet but there are a few genuine legal sites that sell downloadable versions.

I think it's illegal, you are essentially stealing it. But everybody does it, not to mention stealing music, so if your internet got cancelled...that's pretty lame, you should complain for sure, and say you didn't know!!!

if it was a movie already out on dvd then its legal. if it hasnt come out yet, its illegal. but there is this one site where you can go on it and you can watch any movie in the world whether it has come out or not. i forgot the name of the site though. sorry
