Against or with the death penalty...?
Find answers to your legal question.

Against or with the death penalty...?

Obviously, a very controversial subject...& I sit on the fence for this one...
I believe, in most murder cases, it should be a life for a life, if you take away the life of an INNOCENT (not a rapist, or not in self defense) person, than you deserve to have your life taken away from you...
However, I also think that murderers should have to suffer in prison, zero rights, as well...

Also, what about innocent people for which ever reasons, proven guilty of murder and is to get the death sentence??

This is why I remain unsure...

So, what do you think, all for the death penalty, or no?

against. we're killing people who kill people to teach that killing is wrong.
if you really want to hurt somebody, give them prison with no chance of parole, in solitary, like charlie manson.
locked up alone all day with nothing but your thoughts. it would drive anyone (More) insane. that's real torture.
killing them is setting them free from their remorse, and free from themselves.

BY THE WAY, "LIZ":
i don't know if you've done your research, but serial killers don't GET spongebob and sugar cookies.
they get kept away from the general population, with nothing but their thoughts and one hour to shower and play, by themselves. and trust me, there are no sugar cookies.

I'm all for it but on a case-by-case basis. The evidence needs to be air tight to convict for the death penalty. If a crime of murder is caught on video tape, for example, and the person can be 100% identified as the person, then the death penalty should be instantaneous. A bullet is much cheaper than 30K a year of tax-payer money and wasted jail space. If the criminals knew that they were going to be toast for doing certain crimes, then perhaps the death penalty would be an effective deterrent.

Against it. Honestly, I'm guessing most of the people who would deserve the death penalty would want it anyways as an easy way out, and rotting in jail is probably worse for some of them.

Why do so many of these people that go on shooting rampages and what not end it by shooting themselves (even if cops aren't around)? There's no universal explanation for every situation (like heat of the moment issues), but I'm guessing many of these cases have some previous thoughts or history that builds to this crime

But most of my position also comes from my religious/moral background. Killing another person will not bring anyone else back.

No human should kill another human with intention, its defined as murder by law. So NO

Against it, for practical reasons. Looking at the death penalty system in action in the USA, you see that it isn’t an effective way to prevent or reduce crime, costs more than alternatives and carries a serious risk of executing innocent people. And the views of families of murder victims are not what you might think. Sources listed below.

The most disturbing thing is the risk that innocent people can be executed. 130 people wrongfully convicted people were sentenced to death and were lucky to be exonerated and released, eventually. DNA, available in less than 10% of all homicides, can’t guarantee we won’t execute innocent people. If someone is convicted and later found innocent you can release him from prison, but not from the grave.

Life without parole, on the books in 48 states, also prevents reoffending. It means what it says, and spending 23 of 24 hours a day locked in a tiny cell is not a picnic. It costs less than the death penalty.

The death penalty is much more expensive than life in prison, mostly because of the upfront costs of the legal process which is supposed to prevent executions of innocent people. (upfront = pre trial and trial level)

The death penalty doesn't prevent others from committing murder. No reliable study shows the death penalty deters others. Homicide rates are higher in states and regions that have it than in those that don’t.

Families of murder victims are far from unanimous about the death penalty. However, even families who have supported the death penalty in principal have testified that the drawn-out death penalty process is painful for them and that life without parole is an appropriate alternative.

Problems with speeding up the process. Over 50 of the innocent people released from death row had already served over a decade. Speed up the process and we will execute innocent people.

The death penalty isn't reserved for the worst crimes, but for defendants with the worst lawyers. It doesn't apply to people with money. When is the last time a wealthy person was on death row, let alone executed?

With the death penalty
God said if man kills man, then the penalty is death by man (not exact quotes but its relative)
and dont interpret this as an eye for an eye
this is just my opinion

Unfortunately, in many countries today, the support and protection for those who commit evil is far greater than the support and protection of victims of crimes. Justice is not as important protecting evil from being destroyed.

When there is no possible proof of innocence, none whatsoever. When irrefutable scientific proof of guilt exists that the defendant has willfully and with malicious intent caused another person to die......kill them. Hand me the gun, I will do it myself and have a nice supper and a good night's sleep.

In the cases of serial killers or mass murders and the evidence is overwhelming, then I guess I approve of them. Other than that I don't think so.

I don't think the government should be involved with killing people. It has been proven that the death penalty doesn't actually deter people as most murders are done in the heat of the moment. Also due to the appeal process and court costs, putting someone to death actually costs the tax payers more then keeping someone in jail for life. And yes innocent people are being put to death, put yourself in their place, their own government putting them do death for something they didn't do, that must be the most horrible thing to have to go through

I agree wholeheartedly about prisoners having to suffer. Unfortunately, prisons have become just about as uncomfortable as a holiday inn these days.

some people deserve to die (janes addiction)
having said that i think the prisoners should have the decusion to die or not to die.
i r neither for or against it we could execute thousands every year or nobody either makes no sense.

Bush 1 and 2 managed to kill hundreds of thousands but some elevate them to hero status, just be a mega mass murder i guess and u will be ok.

check out dead man walking or sister helen, u will find many lawnchair cheerleaders, (tailgate party) for the executed and they are still not happy after midnight.
