Yes a juvenile can be tired as an adult meaning they are a juvenile but tried as if they were an adult because simply "they should know better". My friend hospitalized another person when he was 17 but when he was tried he was 18. But because the crime was commited by him at 17 he was tried as a juvenile and even went to juvenile hall to serve 6 months even though he was/is 18.

My definition of an adult in the U.S. is 18 or older. Someone told me it is not. Please clarify. Is 18 the age America considers someone to be an adult?

18 is when you become an adult in the US. Your friend was 17 when he committed his crime and is fortunate that they kept the case in the juvenile system. People can be held in the juvenile halls until they're 21. Had he been 18 when he committed his crime, it would have been dealt with in the adult criminal court system.

You can be put in "grown up" jails at the age of 17. Your friend got off easy. Seventeen is the age that you are normally tried as an adult in most cases...if the offense is serious enough.

I would say that "adulthood" starts at 25 when you are no longer discriminated for your age with insurance companies.

The age you become a legal adult is 18. But you have still have some restrictions, such as drinking.

Your friend was probably tried as a juvenile because he was one when the crime took place.
