am i liable in NY state for damge done to personal property in an apartment i lived in at the time? i'm being sued for over $5000 by my exgirlfriends renters insurance, i was living in the apartment at the time of the incident. just curious

Not enough facts, but one thing is clear that your ex’s insurance company believes the facts support them i.e. the suit, if a suit has been filed you will need to either retain a lawyer or answer the complaint yourself and prep for trial, failure to answer the complaint will result in a judgment against you, at that point the judgment can be attached to any assets you may have in order to be seized to pay off the judgment |

If you caused damage to someone else's property, you are liable. Whether you lived there or not is irrelevant.
