Am i wrong to not care about Africa?

I think sending money for AIDs is ridiculous - when they SHOULD be sending money for CONDOMS and birth control.

But, taking care of other countries will ultimately be doing your future children a favor. One good deed deserves another and planet constantly flips around over time.

Taking care of your own is very important too though.

The AIDS in Africa will someday affect the entire world. I'd have to say yes, you should probably care about the people in Africa. They are people too, just farther away.

I think everyone should tailor their charitable giving to the people, places and causes that tug at their hearts. You can't force yourself to care about Africa; let's assume omeone else will help the people in Africa while you are helping the charities that are meaningful to you.

What a person cares about is not a right or wrong ,
Just a matter of heart - you have one or don't .
As far as actually giving $$$ , most people can only afford to support a limited number of causes , support those you can BUT do not disrespect others just because you do not see their relevance.
Do you want others saying cancer, sierra club and wwf don't matter ?

I understand what you mean. It is easier to send money to a charity that you personally care about. I send money to children cancer organizations because a close friend's child has cancer.

I care that people in Africa are suffering, but so are so many other people, countries etc. I received phone calls daily to donate, and I can only donate to a few and I choose those that mean the most to me.

I don't take your question to mean you don't care that they are suffering, just that you don't feel you can donate to that cause.

My advice to you is: follow you personal beliefs and sensibilities. If you care more about the homeless in your country, for example, that's fine, just go ahead and do something about it. But be honest to yourself and make sure you do get seriously involved in whatever cause you deem fair.

Yes, I believe it is wrong and selfish of you to not care unless it affects you directly. But are you sure it doesn't? With the advancements of technology and world travel the spread of AIDS is a big problem for everybody.
Women and small children are being raped and killed in Darfur while the world watches. I hope you just meant that you'd rather donate to a local cause and not that you plain old don't care that human beings are suffering.

In a way it is wrong not to care, You have to look through history to see that Africa is not in the state that it is in because of anything they have or haven't done. If you look at things like imperialism you will see the problem in Africa stems from what "white" nations did to it... Perhaps it is harder for you to care about Africans because you cannot relate to Africans... But just give where you see fit... Not colonization,m imperialism, that is when Europeans went to Africa to stake claim. Thats is why they speak French and English is so many places in Africa.... I've been there I know the effects imperialism had, they have pictures in their museums of their dutch imperialist that made themselves rulers over their land, as well as French and British... The Dutch Imperialism can even be blamed with the genocide in Rwanda in 1994 that directly relates to problems in the Congo and Burundi, so yes it is wrong not to care about Africa.!

You aren't wrong for not giving, but you are wrong for not caring. I don't believe our gov't. should provide aid to Africa, because it hasn't worked. I give sometimes, but I always care about what happens to any people in the world.

Mrs. Jackson, you are mistaken. Taiwan was a colony, as was the U.S. Australia was a colony. Colonialism isn't the reason for African suffering. It is corrupt government, for the most part, and lack of freedom that have kept African nations down.

I think it's nice that you want to donate money, but there are a lot of people that need help around the world, and African people need just as much help as North American people, and same thing all over the world. It might not seem like people in Africa affect you, but I get the feeling that everybody affects everybody eventually. Plus, think about the golden rule, treat others as you would want to be treated. Just the same, it's your money, so it's up to you as to how you want to use it. I would give it to the foreign mission board or something like that. I think you can donate to UNICEF also. God bless.

No, you are not wrong to not care about people that refuse to help themselves. The people there keep on producing babies, babies, babies, even when they know they cannot feed the ones they have. Various countries have sent people there to try to educate them about disease and prevention, at best they are ignored, at worst threatened or physically harmed in return. So, if they do not want to do anything to help themselves, why help them? Save it for the people that will actually appreciate the help.

i think africa is retarded. like. think of it this way. at one point in time, everywhere in the world we were all cavemen. then we advance a lil at a time and grow. well now we've gone through like pyramids and ancient greece with all the pillars and we did all the pilgrim crap and we built stuff and now we got skysccrapers and computers eveywhere. how is it that most of africa is still groups of people dancing around in grass skirts with spears and tribal headmasks? every civilization on the planet has an extensive and amazing history. exept africa. morons. need to solve their own problems.
