Yet another typical example of the nanny state where a police officer doing his job is suspended, what do we expect our law enforcers to do in violent situations such as these... tickle the offenders into submission?
What was the protest about anyway... I doubt many of those marching and protesting know either... just jumping on the band wagon because they've nothing better to do with their time. (I do actually know, but choose to sort things out for myself rather than leave it to others to assume I don't have a voice and want them to protest on my behalf)
My suggestion: If you don't want to get battered with a police baton, stay at home, otherwise, protest at your own risk.
As for the media... shame on you again. Media driven trials and verdicts is so common place these days, we should go back to the days of news blackouts where potential legal action is to pursue. Of course report the stories, but leave the video for the courtroom trial. The media in this country, including the once respected BBC is in the gutter, is there any wonder that newspaper sales and viewing figures are plummeting? |

i think police should have powers to use force in stead of not being able retaliate . women can be as bad as men if not worse but to the press its hiped up |

I watched the footage of the alleged attack on two different TV channels. The woman appeared to approach the police officer three time in an antagonistic way, the third time almost in a rush. Also it wasn't possible to see if she was holding any weapon because she was facing away from the cameras.
Some elements in our society immediately attack the police on any issue without knowing all the facts, generally they either have a grudge against the police because they have been caught earlier committing crimes or they belong to the Anarchist Brigade. |

New labour anti freedom thugs. What do you expect from Gordon Browns EU/ islamic Nazi party. It would seem to you have to be Islamic to be able to demonstrate in this country. white people just get their heads caved in and thrown into prison |

Police officers are appointed by their chief Constable/Commissioner not God .If two out of the hundred thousand out there do something wrong I don't think we have too much to worry about. The police don't tell the press everything and until enquiries are complete I don't see how so many small minded people can condemn the whole British police service on what the media spouts. |

the police take a zero tolerance stance against violence to women if she is attacked by a civilian, i would like to see justice done here but we already know that the police will close ranks and lie to protect their co-worker.
I had an off duty police Chief pull out of a junction and caused a collision with my car. the cctv evidence from the local council has been rejected, a photo of him half across the junction is disputed even though you can clearly see him, and mobile phone recorded evidence is contrary to police statements and does not verify what they claim and therefore was disregarded.
how can you fight this ? there will be no justice for the woman attacked or the man killed, this is a police state and they are above the law |

I dont think the police are being tried by the media - if a police officer uses violence they have to account for it regardless of if the pictures have been shown on the TV or not. Or are you suggesting the media shouldn't show these images so that the police can get away with violence towards members of the public?
The officer concerned will explain his actions to the IPCC who will then find if it was reasonable or excessive.
The first slap was done over his shoulder so to me would be excessive as he cannot possibly tell if she was causing a danger to him. She then remonstrated with him and he pulled out his baton and hit her across the legs with it. |

I think police should have fewer unnecessary papers to fill out and more power to and backing to use force against criminals, HOWEVER, they must act with discipline and abide by the law just as they are there to (supposedly) uphold it.
The police must demonstrate that they have the discipline and restraint before this can happen. I don't know about the lady but I saw on the news about that person that was pushed over and had a heart attack; those responsible for that act should be kicked out of the force.
I don't know sometimes I just think the police as just as bad as the criminals for various reasons... I forgot, most of the police are convicted criminals lol |

Aren't the police supposed to be calm, professional and level headed?
If the thug who likes hitting women can't control his fear perhaps he shouldn't be a police sergeant anymore.
By the way, it's a constitutional right to be able to protest in this country - if you think that it's not and that the woman was asking for it then you are a moron and should probably apply to join the Met. |

Police being tried by media? Of course. They don't have all the facts, she was probably stepping out of line and should have been hit for it. A man would have been hit for stepping out of line so why should women be any different. Equality, right. |
