Any helpful info on getting some guardianship stuff changed?

My final goal is to completely be separate from my mom, but I can't do that right now. Right now I am going to work on getting my dad more days. Right now my mom gets me mon.-wed and every other weekend. My dad gets me thursday-friday and the other weekends.
I would also like to know if I can get my grandparents to be partial guardians.
Any helpful info or helpful sites would be great.

Until your of legal age and can separate yourself as an adult, this is really a custody issue between your mom and dad. Obviously, from what you say, you spend equal time with each of your parents. If you and your father wish to change that, he will have to go back to court.
He can seek full custody, (and the judge will take your wishes into consideration,) but you mother can still fight this and maintain shared custody. It's up to the court in the long-run to determine what is best for you. But regardless of the outcome, when one parent has sole custody the other is entitled to visitation in the majority of cases.
As far as your grandparents are concerned, they could not assume the role of legal guardians, (shared or otherwise,) unless your mother was in agreement. This is the law in every state unless the parent involved is proven in some way to be unfit. |
